Memphis knew when they drafted him that it would take time for him to develop. It is the fans who are impatient.

Amen brother, bigs take longer to develop too.....the guy is a 7'3" athlete, those do NOT fall off of trees....

Year 3 is the key year for most players, they either get it or they don't.....

Thabeet played pretty decently in his rookie year when he got consistent minutes, I think he got down on the fact that it did not continue.

The only difference was that he didn't go tweet about it ala Twill, it looks as if he internalized it....

Confidence is what I think the guy needs.......

If we play thabeet, the only reason for doing so is because we need a center.

Otherwise, you earn your playing time. I mean no one in hell are you going to give guys like T-Will playing time when all he does is mess around on the court.

Ultimately its up to the coaches, but thabeet better be doing something good in practice if he wants to be on the court.

This is just not true Flam, the Lakers let Kobe flame out in his rookie year in the playoffs, but he got that experience - and he was only 19 years old.

Dirk got to develop with playing time too.

Sometimes an organization needs to look to the future, more than the now, and IMO, that was a major rift with Adelman.

Rick would play young players that could help him win now, but would not play those that needed to learn from their mistakes in games.

Exactly, the reason we got J-Hill, Thabeet and Flynn is because of teams that dont have any patience.. Dantoni did an interview where he said he wouldnt play J-Hill when Jeffries would contribute more now.. The idea of playing to stay afloat instead of preparing for the next coming is just dumb..

Maybe, but you're ignoring whether Dirk and Kobe earned their spots during practice in the first place. Both of those guys have work-horse attitudes / chips on their shoulders. I wouldn't insult them by comparing them Williams.

It's not a radical idea and I expect Thabeet to start. It's the logical choice, no way we can survive another season with a 6'6 center as a starter. Chuck deserves the minutes but you need a big presence, it's that simple.

Lowry - Martin - Budinger - Patterson - Thabeet should be starting since we will not do anything in the playoffs anyways.

Don't compare them to Williams. We know Williams can play. That is a whole other situation. Thabeet never really had a chance here with Adelman. I believe things will be different with McHale.

Chuck is not the problem. I still fully expect him to be the starter. I am just wanting Thabeet to become a reliable rotation player off the bench for now.

    It is very true.

Kobe is completely different to T-Will. Kobe and Dirk both showed intensity, work effort and complete concentration on the court. You earn playing time, you don't just "get it".

T-Will was given plenty of opportunities to show case himself during garbage minutes. And how was he during those minutes? No effort on defense, screwing around on offense, standing around waiting for the ball.

This isn't about learning from mistakes, this is about whether you care enough for the game to work on it.

Hasheem was given plenty of opportunity to play in his first year in memphis, and he never got anywhere. He had about as much opportunity as Kobe, and in his second year he didn't improve at all.

It's how it is, you earn playing time.

I never said he was the problem but a 6'6 center is ridiculous, we were terrible defensively even though Chcuk is the best in the league.

In the beginning of Thabeet's career, he was leading the rookies in blocks. He had something that he could build on but was not given the consistent minutes to do so. In 2 seasons he has never been given the proper time to develop against pros.

Lets take Jordan Hill, for instance. He too has not been given the proper time on the floor to develop, but he has had way more time than Thabeet. You can see how the time that Jordan has had, has helped him tremendously. We are already hearing from other teammates about how much more Hill has improved since the end of the season. Just think how much better Thabeet would be if Memphis had given him the same amount of minutes as Houston gave Hill. Thabeet would not be with the Rockets today.

Thabeet needs to play in every single game this upcoming season.

    I agree at starting Thabeet.
But a birdie told me most likely it's going to be Hill then Thabeet.

Today, I'm feeling it. Go ahead and start him. I don't really want to compete this season anyway unless Morey pulls off something transformational (which I'm not expecting). If it works great; if it doesn't work, there's a pick at the end of the road.

A 6-6 C isn't as ridiculous as Kevin Fairy Martin and Chase Charmin Budinger playing perimeter defense... ;)

That is tough to disagree with.

Let's hope that Morey has assured McHale that it is ok to lose games and develop players, lol.

Radical idea... let Thabeet show on the court during games that he deserves to be there for a better reason than taking up space.
