Schaub is a just an odd case, the numbers say he should be an elite QB and 85% of the time, I think he could be. The problem is the other 15%, only one interception but damn it was costly and we all know there should have been two. Very rarely will he big the biggest issue in any loss but can someone tell me the last time he won a game against a real good team where he took over a game when all hope was lost? KC maybe or Miami a few years ago...??? I just don't know if I trust him to win a BIG game, I mean he did score the late drive to give the team a 33-32 although the TD should have been picked...just a tough case.
When the heck is the trade deadline? I hope the Broncos help out their boy old man Kubes at give us Champ Bailey for a bag of chips.
When you have to go above and beyond to analyze his flaws, when the majority of the time he is excelling and putting this team in a good enough position to win... its likely that the team has bigger problems other than who their QB is. Right now, this team is good enough to win with Schaub. If he went out, they would be toast with Leinert. If their defense doesn't implode in the 4th quarter, they likely win the game today... despite the red zone issues.
Agreed somewhat.... He is by far the best QB we have had... And we can win 10/11 games with him at the helm this year and beyond... But I just dont have the confidence in him to win the game that we NEED to win...
See, I agree, Schaub has the best receiver in the game, one of the best RBs, TEs and OLs in the game so reality is that the Texans shouldn't need to win games. That said, even top 5 defenses have off weeks, good teams find ways to win those games and the QB is usually responsible for that. Again, if all hell is braking loose and Kubiak goes brain dead again...do you trust Schaub to bail us out? And by NO means I am saying putting in Jacuzzi boy, rather more of a long term question.
And I love it!!!...Dude I aint got nothin to do... These 3 o'clock games suck... Do like KevC and beg Clutch to ban me...
Lance Moore vs Kareem Jackson...you don't have to be Nostradamus to predict the result there. Who is the Steelers 3rd best receiver again...I want to pick him up so I can start him in Fantasy Football next week. I think you punt 4th and 75....even getting the ball back with 30 seconds and no timeouts you have SOME shot. What a waste of heroics from not just AJ but OD and friggin' James Casey. Our pass rush was inconsistent, there were times when Brees was just dancing around in the pocket for 8 or 9 seconds til someone came open. Arian would have helped, IF Kubes didn't outthink himself and not use him "Because that was what they are EXPECTING us to do!" If Kareem Jackson can eventually improve to say the 50th best corner in the league I will be ecstatic but of course we will trot him out there for 3 more years because otherwise we admit we were wrong about a first round draft pick (see Okoye, Amobi) all though Jackson is really more like the Texans career of Boselli, Tony.
Sure, he may not match up in terms of "intangibles" when it comes to scrambling, improvising, escaping danger, etc.... not many QB's have made a living doing that successfuly, and the ones that have to do it a lot end up paying for it in the long run, or their teams aren't all that great. (see Vick today). Mark Sanchez can improvise and scramble... do I think he's a better QB than Schaub? Hell no. Of course, Schaub is only going to be as good as his team is around him. If the O-line is not blocking, he won't be good. If the recievers drop the balls, he won't be good. If the defense has the team scouted well, he won't invent an offense by himself to change things up. In the end, he's an accurate QB that has some poise, and can lead a high octane offense to points. Today's game was very much like the Washington, KC, and Baltimore games last year... where we won two of those. I still don't see enough EITHER way to annoint or desecrate him. In the end, 33 points should be enough to win a road game. In the end, 380 yards and 3 TD's are good enough numbers regardless on the context... and in this case, the context wasn't all that damning (he didn't get garbage points/yards... and the team was never trailing big-time to force him to throw the ball exclusively).
just watched the fourth quarter again. I guess I like self torture. How can blame be thrown at the QB? He got you the lead 33-32 I thought they gave up on the run, and new orleans' Defense dialed up blitzes at the right time, where we just went in with the basic rushing four. On the other hand, sending more than four wouldn't have helped much anyways. It was brees, drop two steps, copletion on Kjizz. =( Rocket river always says kubiak will lose you a couple of games in the season. One down, two more to go. Win next week all is forgotten.
The game was lost because we stopped running the ball to control the clock and keep the ball out of Brees' hands. In the 4th quarter, Houston up 26-17 with 12:21 left: 1st and 10 at HOU 14 M.Schaub pass incomplete short left to B.Tate. 2nd and 10 at HOU 14 B.Tate left tackle to HST 15 for 1 yard (J.Dunbar). 3rd and 9 at HOU 15 (Shotgun) M.Schaub pass incomplete short left to A.Johnson. 4th and 9 at HOU 15 B.Hartmann punts 34 yards to HST 49, Center-J.Weeks, downed by HST. DRIVE TOTALS: HOU 26, NO 17, 3 plays, 1 yards, 0:55 elapsed NO gets the ball and scores in less than 2 minutes. Houston now up 26-24 with 9:30 left. Great time to run some clock, right? 1st and 10 at HOU 34 M.Schaub pass incomplete deep right to J.Jones (J.Greer). 2nd and 10 at HOU 34 M.Schaub pass incomplete short left to B.Tate. 3rd and 10 at HOU 34 (Shotgun) M.Schaub pass short middle intended for A.Johnson INTERCEPTED by J.Greer at HST 49. J.Greer to HST 47 for 2 yards (A.Johnson). DRIVE TOTALS: HOU 26, NO 24, 2 plays, 2 yards, 0:22 elapsed 5 passes in 6 plays and ran a total of 1:17 off the clock. Next time the Texans got the ball back, they were down 32-26.
Seemed like we got tentative when we went up in the 3rd... Then got frustrated and played not to lose again...
UGH. Lucy pulled the football out on us after halftime. UGH. I was half-expecting us to get blown out....so my buddies and I were loving life for so much of the game. Uneasy about the way they left 4 points on the field over and over and over and over....but there was so much to be excited about: Casey killing it, and busting out his Skating With the Stars Triple Axel move on defenders. Manning and J-Joe snagging INTs. Watt & Co doing damage. Johnson tearing apart their secondary. But then Noodle Armed Bad Shaub kept popping his head in. It's so crazy how he can be so sensational....but the chair keeps getting pulled out with those low, underthrown balls behind the receivers for INCs and INTs. How impossibly lucky were we when he threw a hands down terrible pick into both palms of a defender that gets bobbled into a Walter TD. The early 4th quarter 3 & out was the turning point. Kubiak (and the offense) again demonstrating that closing out a lead is a mystery. What didn't matter against the Colts and Phins bit us like a rabid dog today. Oh and I'd like to thank Jackson for running his mouth at Lance Moore (who only snatched a first down completion on him) and activated his beast mode for the rest of the game (including a TD on Jackson and twin two point conversions). God bless, I can't wait til we cut this clown and replace him with a real CB. I should be okay - it's what 90% of us expected/predicted (shootout loss)....but knowing we should have won the game running away kills me. That we couldn't slam the door on a team we had dead to rights, that we left 12 points on the board with Red Zone Shrinkage Syndrome..UGH. And man am I bitter about them bringing Foster back too soon. Think he would've helped this week? Just maybe? On to the Steelers-Raiders homestand. I think both games are there if we bring our A game and shore up our issues. The scary thing is, with Colston out, Moore WAS their #1 WR...and Jackson was on him anyway. Not that I'd want him in front of Henderson (seeing as he'd only be in front of him for the snap). When the Saints spread with 5 going out, there was no hiding Jackson or the fact that Cushing and Ryans are fairly lousy in coverage these days.
I don't think passing the ball as much as we did - WITH THE LEAD - in the 4th quarter constitutes playing not to lose.
This series right here, is IMO, what killed us today. We had an opportunity to run and run down the clock, and we didn't. Schaub and Kubes had 1 bad series, and this one was it. Yet another game where our offense has little margin for error, yet, when they did err, the fanbase jumps on them like it is all their fault. Our D line gets most of the blame IMO. Brees was pretty much untouched all day long.
40 points? The d lost this one. Schaub got the lead back and with 4 minutes left the d couldn't hold them. Not enough pressure and of course Jackson was Moores b****. Yeah the red zone FGs are annoying but Foster will fix that problem. 33 points on the road should be enough, the O did their part and no one should be blaming Schaub.
Oh. And Quinn letting a big ol TE outrun him in coverage was just an awful pla on Glover's part. But keep on slamming KJ.
