Season 1 was the best, but season 3 was a close second. Mostly because Jimmy Smits is such an awesome actor. Anybody else playing that role would of diminished the season greatly.
I'd highly recommend avoiding this thread because anything up through the end of season 5 is fair game without spoiler tags.
If anything, that new sneak peek video diminished my excitement for the upcoming season. In my opinion, 2 was the best, followed by 4 and 1. To see anyone put season 3 at the top seems insane to me.
I loved the cat and mouse game between Miguel and Dexter. I thought that season also did the best for Dexter balancing the desire for family and friends with his Dark Passenger. Other seasons were a lot more heavy handed. Bonus points for Masuka planning a bachelor party. I rate them 3, 2, 1, 5, 4.
I did enjoy that season overall, but of the five seasons I thought it was the worst. The Trinity Killer angle was interesting, but it dragged out way too long after Dexter discovered it was Arthur Mitchell. They also jacked up Rita's b****iness that season, and I didn't care for the way they handled the new baby (maybe having a newborn affected this for me). We also got the very drawn out LaGuerta\Angel love plot. The focus that season was on Dexter having a child and being the father figure in a family, and could he learn to balance that with his Dark Passenger or learn to from Arthur Miller. It just felt heavy handed too often, and I got tired of Dexter sucking up as Kyle Butler. I feel that shocking ending is the thing people focus on for that season, and it clouds the fact that as a whole, the episodes weren't as good.
It's a stream, good quality too. Just click the play button on the toolbar of the screen, not the screen itself.
Ugh, I waited too long to join in on the "preseason" discussion--I need to leave before I see spoilers (I closed my eyes while navigating the previous few posts). Anyway, I just wanted to chime in and say I'm with SES on season rankings. I loved Smits' character and Dexter's interactions with him, so 3 is my favorite. I also loved Doakes (and miss him), so 2 is not far behind. I would switch 5 and 4 though. While I enjoyed 4, the pacing was a just a bit too slow, and the exciting ending was not enough to make me forget how much the season overall dragged. Season 5 however, was just flat out not very good. The story arc was not so captivating and the secondary stories (LaGuerta & Batista) seemed like CSI quality drama. Even the dialogue was kinda crappy--Dexter said several things throughout the season that was really out of character. Anyway, here's hoping that this new season will get back to the previous standard of Dexter quality... While I wait for season 6 come out on bluray, I'll just imagine the rest of you fawning over my opinion while I avoid this thread...

Some thoughts on the season 6 premiere... Spoiler I didn't feel like it was a particularly strong episode - but still not bad. As an atheist, it's interesting/refreshing for me to see the protagonist of a show as popular as Dexter outright mocking religion. There aren't many other shows like that (House comes to mind). However, I think the story line for the season will eventually become about Dexter "finding god". I expect that to create some eye-rolling moments for me personally, but by season's end I imagine he will come back around to his original position (given that Hanks/Olmos are going to be doing some pretty horrific things "in the name of god"). Should be interesting either way.
quick question...so, I got rid of Showtime a few months ago...what are my options to View Season 6 episodes as they happen? Any legal way (even if it requires payment)?
