Not to mention Foster played with a torn meniscus all of last year, because, according to him, he didn't want to lose his job to injury.
In his defense, a torn meniscus won't stop you from running, a busted hammy will. Can't exactly "hide" that.
sometimes i wonder is DD believes his own BS. Foster's own motivation to want to play is why he is hurt. Questioning Arian's motivation is just a poor attempt to play devil's advocate in order to get another 30-40 posts in this thread. Additionally, Tate will not be "entrenched" in any starting job. What Tate provides is a luxury to work Arian in slowly, if it's decided upon...and that's reasonable. I could potentially see a scenario where foster comes off the bench in his first game to test the water, but once Arian proves he's 100% then he will start.
I don't know about this. If Foster proves he is the better back, he will start. I don't know who is better. I think Tate is the better runner and Foster is the better receiver. Tate still has some room to grow as a player and could easily be the leading rusher after this week. With the aggressiveness of the Saints, I expect Tate to break a 40 yard run.
Wait...are you suggesting that motivating yourself can't properly heal a hammy injury? That wanting to go back on the field too soon, doing so, and reaggravating a not-fully-rested-when-rest-is-the-only-cure hamstring injury is not a sign of being too comfortable and unmotivated? I don't understand your logic AT ALL. It is obvious some people don't understand sports injuries. Or what playing sports is like. Or sports. Or injuries.
Bingo!!!..Its amazing how reading on the internet about things make some of these folks experts... Everybody cant be Jim Rome!!!!
What has Tate shown you that makes you believe he is a better runner than Foster? There are different dimensions to running the ball. Tate probably has 1 out of 5 on Arian
Gotta tell ya, I tore my left medial meniscus year before last, and that hurt like a son of a b!t*h. If he really did play with a fully torn meniscus, he just earned a lot of toughness points in my book.
First off, nice moniker. Secondly, there have been no indications that Tate is a better back. Has better vision, acceleration, and moves in the open field. I think Tate might be better at breaking tackles, but that's about it. Not saying there's no chance he'll end up better. There's just no evidence of it yet through 2 games and a preseason. Also, you say that Tate still has some room to grow as if Foster is old. He's only 25 and has less than 18 games of wear on his body. He has a lot of years left (barring injury, as always).
Foster's vision and decisiveness once he sees a cutback lane is far superior to Tate at the moment. Tate is a more powerful runner at point of attack making it easier for him to get yards at point of attack and getting to the second level easier. He is very good at hitting the point of attack at right time like Foster. Tate has Foster in speed.
I don't think Foster's vision is going to improve much since it is already top notch. I don't see Foster getting stronger or faster. Tate has had a few 8-15 yard runs that I think he was one cut or a little patience away from making 25+ yard runs. His instincts are good, but he just needs a little more game experience to improve. I do think there is a lot more to being a RB than just rushing. Foster has all the other factors now minus health. It will be an interesting decision on who the better back is if Tate learns when to cut back.
Foster can block and protect Schaub better. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery because he makes our team more scary. I'm glad that we have both players. We need Tate to show up big Sunday.
Even NWA broke up. There is going to come a day when one of them is going to want to do his own thing. That's still years away. And until tate can break a couple of 70 yard runs with such ease, Foster is the Franchise back. Let's enjoy the fact that we have two talented backs and even more talented O line. Less than 48 hours now.
Tate's probably not bruiser enough for a change of pace role, but I would really like for them to split carries. Like in KC last year, where it was 275 touches for Charles and 260 for Jones. If they rotate, then they'll be pounding the ball without any fatigue factor, which will mean more yards, more first downs, etc. Or look at Buffalo, they have some sets where both Jackson and Spiller are in at the same time.
I have no doubt that Houston fans will create a Foster v. Tate situation. Similar to the Brooks v. Lowery saga.
