Not really. They haven't been top 10 since 1994 which coincidentally was the last time they got busted.

You still need to win games. A&M hasn't won a bowl game in a decade. LSU is a 4-hour drive away, 8 bowl wins, 4 SEC titles and 2 Nat'l titles since 2000.

And then you have the Cotton Bowl game from 9 months ago.

Doubt it, at least not the studs. And as far as the non studs, they really won't be much better than the kids in our own backyard. I'm gonna go on a limb and say in the near and distant future, the majority of A&M's roster will still be Texas kids.

No tougher than it has really been in the past, as kids who typically wanted the SEC had no issue going to SEC schools. We have always been a big exporter of talent. I don't think the pool of stud kids that want the SEC but just refuse to leave the state is that large to have a major impact on your recruiting. Especially if y'all aren't kicking butt in the SEC. If anything, I think it just makes it easier for an LSU (for example) to say now you can have us and still get to play in your home state every now and then.

I think A&M will still routinely finish behind UT and OU in recruiting but only time will tell.

Of course they will, it is Bryan/College station - still a very rural feel to that school.

Kids for the most part want to go to a school they connect with other kids at, A&M still feels very red necky, and countrified....and that is not for everyone.

I'll preface by saying my unrealistic wish would be for A&M to stay and for the Big12 to shore itself up with TCU and Arkansas.

Having said that, I see this as being an overall bad move for A&M. I get the notion that being an SEC school is a hell of a lot cooler than being a Big12 one, but as for as recruiting.....

I think the mystique of the UT-A&M rivalry, which has dominated the state forever will start to wane a bit and give ground to the UT-OU rivalry. When I was in grade school, you needed to pick sides...and in a subtle way, that helped the recruiting process. I think that'll be diminished and be a minor affect in recruiting for A&M.

Any uptick A&M sees from offering Texas kids a chance to play in the SEC, IMO, is going to be solidly outweighed by Texas kids seeing more of the top SEC schools and wanting to leave and play for them (not A&M) and Texas kids that want to stay in the state and play for a ranked team in Bowl games (not A&M). Are Alabama kids going to want to go to A&M? Doubtful.

SHHHHH you might want to learn a little more about football before you start talking like this.

If you knew anything you would know that TAMU runs the zone read offense sound familiar? yes the exact offense the Texans run which if you look the aggies are actually one of the most if not the most balanced offenses in the league.

Heck Cyrus Grey has had over 100 yds rushing 10+ games in a row.

Leave the real football talk to us big boys in the SEC

Everyone wants to win, and if a kid wants to play in the SEC - they are going to choose a winning program, not Missisippi state, or A&M......those are middle of the pack teams at best.

Can you not name any top recruiting programs located in rural areas? Rural areas cant recruit football talent? Is that what you're saying? You have to be located in a city right? Like Houston?

That's what I meant. Of course it will open up recruiting for Texas kids to go to other schools.

No, I am saying A&M specifically is still agriculturally based, and that is a turn off to a lot of kids.

Put Arkansas, TCU (meh, not really), Nebraska and BYU in the Big 12 and as an Aggie fan, I'd be fine with staying. But that's not the case. The conference is severely watered down and will always be run by Texas.

So you leave that conference, where you have a chance, to go to another conference where you have no chance, and is also run by a school or schools that don't have your interests in mind either.

    Yep, perfect sense.

Do you have any idea how or who the SEC is run by, DD?

The SEC has built-in checks and balances. The conference truly serves each member because no single member is bigger than the conference. The Big 12... Wild West man. That's why I want it to dissolve. I want the spoiled kids to not have Christmas. I'm that guy.

And don't get me wrong... the SEC and its members will benefit from A&M being there, they're getting something in return, but its not this out of control Big 12 scenario where TAMU's stature is predetermined.
