Good thread. I'm flying down from SF in a few weeks for Texas-OU.

Over the past few years I've tried:

    fried Oreo
    fried PBJ
    fried Snickers
    fried Twinkie
    fried Nutter Butter
    fried Coke

You can get that in SF, or any other city for that matter.

It's a method of cooking. A deep fried oreo would be an oreo covered in a flour/egg batter then dunked in a bath of sizzling (usually around 350 degrees) oil.

Deep fried twinkies and oreos are great, everything else is pretty much crap. Fried bacon is ok if it's done right.

Oh, man. You have to try the Elvis special.

Deep fried peanut butter, honey and banana coated with powdered sugar.

    I've tried:

    Fried Twinkie (good)
    Fried Oreos (good)
    Fried Pickles (good)
Fried Mac N Cheese (not good, unfortunately)
    Fried Cheesecake (amazing)
Fried Donkey Tail* (a hot dog, split in half with cheese in the middle deep fried in a tortilla)
    Fried Snickers (good)
    Fried Coke (not good)
    Fried Nutter Butter (okay)

Shockingly I am not morbidly obese

*yes I am aware that this sounds like some sort of sexual position

So I've heard people mention Fried Butter? I mean, butter alone is not very healthy and a bit disgusting to me, and now they are frying it?

"We heard you like butter so we deep fried your butter with more butter so you could eat Fried Butter."

Sounds like a safety issue to me...Are there paramedics on stand-by or places to check your pulse strategically placed throughout the fair???

I go to the fair every year, so I've tried every new thing that comes out. Fried butter is actually frozen butter that is wrapped with a dough, and deep fried. It taste just like biting into a biscuit with a butter center. Our definite favs are the fried oreos, which are heaven, and fried twinkies. Usually the people get the classics, like the corny dogs from Fletchers, smoked turkey legs, and roasted corn. Also if you're going, you have to try JD's cheesesteaks. They have this tomato based sauce they put on thats amazing.

Agreed, the fried oreos are my favorite as well. Love how the chocolate gets soft on the inside. I can only eat 2, and give the other to someone else.

Family and I are going on Saturday. Any tips for parking and/or cheap tickets? We're staying out in Grapevine. Is it worth taking the DART to an from?
