Yeah I agree with you that's what he's said but I don't think the picture works in this instance. There are a bunch of people in the A.American community that feel the way he does. The issue then becomes what exactly is it to be "black enough" and who determines that?
I know about that nonsense and I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of brotha's on here have had to deal with others(white and black) telling them that crap.

Anyways, at least Battier made it into a rap song? Good thing right? No?

    J. Cole is one the best rappers in the game and he's still on the rise. Battier has been mediocre his entire career and doesn't even know how to dribble a basketball.

    J. Cole is a hip hop all-star. The only place Uncle unathletic Battier and his no-stats might ever be an all-star is in the WNBA.

Funny how NBA champion Tony Allen has been at Impact Basketball training and working on improving his game after his stellar play last season while Battier has never improved and has instead regressed over the course of his entire career no matter how many NY Times propaganda pieces are written about him.

Only heard the whole album once, obviously way too many tracks where he brags a
bout money and girls or how tough he is. Really a step towards mainstream.
Not really feelin the album right now, will have some more listens and see if it grows
on me, bur right now this is just 3/5.
Lost Ones is one of the only tracks where he goes deep, this is how I know J. Cole
and how I expected the majority of the tracks to be.

Hey I've said in my previous posts, its unfair and not cool, but Im just saying I can understand those kinds of quick, clearly stereotypical, judgements on people...Do I condone it , NO!!! I dont go around looking down on people or idolizing folks because they black or whatnot... Im just pointing out I know what Jalen means when he said what he said about Duke.... Its how it is.. BTW , who said anything about "black enough"... In the world we live in , anyone half-black, is "black enough" to be a victim of racial prejudice...

Bit off topic, but have you guys heard The Doppelgangaz? Dope duo with two heavy albums. Real rap with deep lyrics and 90's beats, has that old school NY feeling. Really recommend the "Lone Sharks" and "Beats for Brothels Vol.1" albums.

You just have to know the true artists, there're some true gems that don't get any radio play. Rap is alive but it's hard to find...

Used to dig Curren$y, but he's obviously stoned 24/7 now and adjusts the beats to it. All laid back, no energy and he used to spit better. "This ain't no mixtape" album sets the bar, full of high energy beats and great lyrics.

Agree about Mac(no 'k') Miller, hope he comes out with a promising debut album.

Thats why I like Curren$y though... He wont change for nobody....His fanbase is strictly people who appreciate his music...It aint forced on you with heavy hitting beats or elementary choruses... Mac Miller is the truth.. He just needs a breakthrough single and he's on his way... Only thing that may hurt him is the apparent similarness to Paul Wall and Bubba Sparxx...But thats another sterotypical issue I wont bring up because folks may get offended...

Im a big J Cole fan but even bigger Houston Rockets fan and I have to agree with...J Cole because Shane Battier is a little lame. Im a big Shane Battier fan as well but Shane is one of those guys that instead of going to the bar with his buddies or somethin, he would prefer to sit at home and watch re-runs of Seinfeld.

You have to take the frame of reference into account. Jalen didn't have all those things when he made that comment; he was 17. And that's where that playa hater mentality comes from, people who can't be happy for other people who are successful due to their own shortcomings. It's the same as hating on a dude with a fine gf because your chick is overweight.

Don't hate the playa Jalen, hate the game. The game that allows guys like Tim Duncan, Grant Hill and Shane Battier to make it to the pro's through hard work, perseverance and genetics without having to be hood. Not everyone from the hood needs to rock an Iverson jersey and act angry at the world. If my household lacks a authoritative male figure, then I'd rather have my kids look up to a true professional as opposed to punks.

If you can't compare him to everyday hard working people, why is it that you can relate to Jalen and not Battier? Can you relate to Kobe just because he acts like a punk? Grew up in Europe, millionaire at 18, global celebrity at 21. That's stupid. Battier may not be the most talented, but he's still going strong compared to talented burnouts like Steve Francis. In that aspect, he is an inspiration to men of every race.

    Regulated.

Ronny I really do see your point ... Its a shame that its like that among society... For those that say, we "blacks" hate and dont like to see people come up who aint been through the struggle, thats not the case... Sure people are closed-minded and all, but when you've been through the opposite of that person in question, it makes it seem warranted.. Battier was fortunate enough to have a good upbringing and "make it", most inner city families would be happy for him but wouldnt look to him as a role model... He may have struggled more than an "Iverson", but he's gonna have that "good life" stereotype tagged to him... I hate it more than the next guy, but I understand it!!!... Thats all Im sayin.. When I said "Battier is a joke to the black community", I didnt mean he was an Uncle Tom... Im sayin it in the context of "Most"(IMO of course)blacks , probably wouldnt care for him because he went to Duke and has that stigma on him...
