what is the latest with the Baylor vs. A&M saga??? nothing new on ESPN, I thought this would be a done deal last week
well, the fact that the home page of the data set begins with this: makes it about as dubious as the average internet poll.
Yes, I'm sure your Magic the Gathering team has quite a following. Since internet polling is obviously the gospel, I think I'll set one up asking if bigtexxx pee's sitting down or not. The people must know.
And where do you think the map comes from? The data. The data is from a completely unscientific internet poll.
Certainly true - but the Big12 exit fees were in place for a long time. The ACC Presidents just unanimously voted to go up to $20MM last week. So if you're FSU and you're even remotely thinking of leaving, there's no way you agree to that - it would be throwing away $10MM.
If Tech does end up going to the PAC16, between them, ASU and Arizona they will account for 40% of all blow consumption in the US.
@TravHaney: Boren: "If I had the answer, I would reveal it." Says "sooner rather than later." No specific timetable. @TravHaney: Boren on timetable: "I don't think it should be that long." @TravHaney: Gist of Boren: 2 options - Pac-12 or save Big 12. Not happy with Baylor, others, for threatening suit. Not happy with LHN. @Jake_Trotter: Boren says threatening litigation no way to keep a conference together @Jake_Trotter: Not a vote of confidence in conference office that this has happened (AM/Co/Neb leaving) Boren says @johnehoover: Boren: (on having to wait on Texas) "We're not gonna cede our sovereignty to anyone else." @AP_JeffLatzke: #Oklahoma president says he's only focused on #Pac12, or trying to save a #Big12 with equal sharing of TV revenue. @TravHaney: Boren on suit threats: "I don’t think you build trust and I don’t think you build stability in a conference by the threat of litigation."
Odd. Chip Brown says: 4:30 p.m. update - The UT regents have just voted in favor of granting UT president Bill Powers the authority to continue to participate in the Big 12 and/or seek a home in another conference. They voted to give him the authority to act in the best interest of the University of Texas, whether that's in the Big 12 or changing conferences. It was a unanimous vote.
Well that makes a lot more sense ... To me, what Kirk Bohls says is almost a slap in the face of Powers and didn't make any sense. ... And with all the bashing I've done of Chip Brown, I must say that he has the best UT source out there (Has to be DeLoss Dodds) and is basically a UT mouthpiece just like Looch is for A&M. Outside of UT, he just flings stuff on the wall.
OU President David Boren: Transcript Part 1 | Part 2 (any chance the Big 12 survives?) “Well, I don’t think that’s a foregone conclusion at all, as to what might happen to the Big 12 in the future. Yes, I think there is a possibility the Big 12 survives. We have not taken off the table our possibility of remaining in the Big 12. That’s an option we’ve not taken off the table. Nor have we taken off the option of going to the Pac-12. Of course, the ball would be in our court to make application for membership, should we decide to do so. “I want to make it very clear that this is not a Texas A&M-like situation, where, when the regents voted to give authority to the president, everyone was aware of the fact they were giving authority under the direction of the president to take action to move to the SEC. That’s not the situation here. The regents have not given me authority and direction to proceed to make a particular decision. This is not an announcement by the University of Oklahoma that we’re leaving to go to the Pac-12. This is not an announcement by the University of Oklahoma that we are taking off the table the option of moving to the Pac-12. So, no one should read into our action that we have made a decision on either course of action. We’re going to carefully examine both of those course of action, very, very carefully and then we’re going to make our decision on what’s best for the University of Oklahoma and then we’ll decisively take that action.” (is LHN the big problem with the Big 12?) “We’re trying to build a positive relationship with all the universities around us. I don’t think it would serve any purpose for me to throw stones. If we were to remain in the Big 12, as you know, the University of Oklahoma was making plans to start our own network. I think whether it’s conference networks or individual university networks, they need to be operated in a way that we don’t violate any of the basic rules that should apply to all universities. For example, we don’t operate networks in a way that would give a recruiting advantage, as Coach Stoops has said, to one university over another. We simply could have a situation where you don’t play whole (high school) games where you have recruits, or people you’re trying to recruit, playing on those teams. You can play highlights and your highlights just might happen to focus on some of those players who were your top recruits. Now, is that a level playing field on recruiting? I don’t think so. We’re for a level playing field. We want to see a conference in which all the members play an equal role. Whatever conference we join, or whatever conference we stay in – those are obviously the two major options – the University of Oklahoma has no ambition to dominate any conference. We simply have the ambition of being a member, an equal member, of any conference, playing by the same rules, by having a level playing field for all the members of that conference and developing a high level of trust in each other. That’s our goal. That’s what we’re after. (regrets about not being more proactive in 2010?) “I have tremendous regret that that’s happened. I would simply say it is not a strong vote of confidence in the conference office that this has happened in such a short period of time. Beebe statement
