Saw it last night, 9:30pm showing at AMC First Colony. I think a lot of people were expecting a Fast & Furious type movie and instead got paint drying with the occasional skull smash and 5 minutes of driving. One person walked out on the movie and let out a giant burp, I think that got the biggest positive reaction from the crowd.
Hhahahahhah... I might have to wait for a matinee showing now if that's the case... Not gonna spend more than $6 for this movie...
LOVED this movie, especially Albert Brooks playing against type. But yeah, if you want 2 Fast 2 Furious...this won't fit the bill.
saw it, very interesting movie, i liked it, very 80's feel but was set in the present time. kinda slow beginning, felt the director was trying to hard at times, and the Tarrintino mention was spot on totally off subject, but to everybody in Missouri City/Sugarland, check out Star Cinema Grill off of Highway 6, that place is amazing, like an upscale movie theater
Saw it last night with the wife. I totally agree. Albert Brooks was fantastic and I NEVER would have pegged him to play this type of role, but he did great. Ryan Gosling was also amazing. Very subtle. The director also showed some pretty cool chops. The scene in the elevator especially was a cool juxtaposition of beauty and horror. A definite buy for me when it comes out on DVD. But I'll echo what others have said. Much of the typical movie-going public will think the movie slow. My wife didn't especially like it and I heard several mouth-breathers in the theater complaining about how slow it was after the show. Be warned it is not very similar to The Transporter or any other standard action flick in that vein.
Reading reviews from people on other sites are all either "masterpiece" or "worst movie to date/snoozefest". Naturally I'm stuck in the middle debating on whether or not to see it
Saw it last night. The look and feel of the movie is VERY reminiscent of early Michael Mann, Martin Scorsese, etc. Even the Mistral font used for the credits screams 80's. Very "Miami Vice". If you go in expecting "The Transporter" of "Fast and Furious", you'll be disappointed. It really isn't an action movie. It's a movie about men of action. It's as much about the motivations of the characters as what they do. There are a lot of dialogue scenes with very little dialogue (which some find annoying: I thought it was very well done). Long pauses, non-verbal reactions, etc. If that's not for you, don't see it. The driving was well done. Believable, but still exciting. The violence is off the charts...when it shows up. Which is not that often. But it is brutal, graphically so. And Spoiler if you're going to see it for Christina Hendricks and her lovely physique, you will be disappointed. She's completely clothed the whole time, and doesn't last that long in the movie.
There were times where I thought Ryan Gosling flat out forgot his lines. Maybe he did and they thought it made for good cinema and left that cut in.
At first, it looked like a generic action movie with a car. Then I heard it won at Caanes, and then a friend of mine who's a film buff called it one of his favourite movies of all time. I'm seeing it this weekend, through hell or high water.
So i went and just saw it and it was pretty good, 8.5. I sorta felt like I was watching Grand Theft Auto IV Liberty City turned into an ominous themed movie, minus all the random killing you can do.
I'm amazed at some people calling it one of the worst movies of the year. Not here...on FB, etc.. Sorry that it didn't live up to a Gone in 60 Seconds, F&F, or a Transformers type of production
We went to watch the Texans game there yesterday. It was pretty amazing. They show every Texans game, free of charge. There were only about 20-30 people there, so there was plenty of room too. As for Drive, I loved it. I thought it was gonna be some fast and the furious type stuff, but thanks to Clutchfans, I was able to adjust my expectations. Very well done movie, with a great balance of action/dialogue/violence.
If this movie doesn't do well because the majority of the population is shelling out money to see robots blowing up with not-megan fox or whatever her name is, then I think I'll be like rhad and lose hope in humanity.
Sounds like the trailer totally didn't sell the film properly, I was throughly disinterested in this flick and after reading through here I've gotten the opposite reaction.
Just watched it and loved it. The soundtrack was just my stuff. I love french house and bloody scenes.
WOW! This movie was utterly fantastic! I was like a kid in a candy shop the whole movie. This will have some very iconic scenes down that will be remembered for years. I am a HUGE David Lynch fan, and I felt this was an homage to him as well. You could feel touches of Mann, Tarantino, and the Coen Brothers also. The soundtrack was simply fantastic! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SEE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That Start Grill sucks *ss Food Sucks and when I was last there the film burned up. . . hate it . just like the Movie Drive More like a 70s feel . . .down to the blank music It was absolutely HORRIBLE movie. It was like 80% Pregnant Pauses that lead to nothing Rocket River
