I would pick him up for my fantasy but those damn interceptions he gives up would hurt me too much. He is a rookie after all, but until he makes better passing decisions he's gonna stay a FA.
During the Chargers-Patriots game, when Brady went over 400 yards for the second consecutive game, they mentioned he was the 6th QB in history to accomplish that. They neglected to mention that Newton had done it earlier in the day, so Brady was actually the 7th.
Well Tramon Williams was out but he was still impressive. Sure he threw 3 interceptions but Carolina should have balanced the offense more. Way too many pass plays called.
The best thing about Cam Newton is that he is not afraid to make mistakes .... yet. As long as he is fearless and doesn't worry about his picks he is going to be a great qb. Right now the media are behind him, because he is a young guy, but we know that that will not last long.
People will never stop making excuses for VY. It's a sickness really. And Cam's accuracy is fairly called into question. He isn't that consistent yet, which is understandable. But I have been impressed with him so far. He seems dedicated and committed to improving himself. He obviously has the tools and is seemingly not against working on them to get them better.
I am a VY fan, but what has gotten him to struggle so much is his sense of entitlement. The dude has not put in the work or matured, he is sort of like Tmac, just a guy who got by on talent and whines whenever faced with adversity. DD
Newton has been impressive, but I think the numbers for QB passing has been really high so far this season. They said on NFL radio that the offenses have the advantage when there is no training camp.
So if I read the comments correctly, the guy is 0-2 with more INTs than TDs and less than 4 yards per rush? While VY is 30-17 (or 10-6 in a full season) as a starter with an even amount of TDs and INTs, but rushes for over 5 yards per attempt? But it's VY who is the crappy player? Let's wait until week 10 or 11 before we start talking about Cam being one of the top notch NFL quarterbacks.
I doubt anyone is lunatic enough to say Cam Newton is a top notch QB as a rookie. But he has shown a boatload more potential as a passer than VY ever did. If you don't agree then feel free to be wrong. The guy is going to struggle and we'll see how he reacts later in the season when defenses adjust and he starts a game 5/15 for 70 yards and 2 INTs. Rough times are coming soon. But IF Newton has a work ethic worthy of a starting NFL QB (unlike VY), I'm looking forward to seeing him develop over the next 3-4 years. Regarding rushing, specifically against the Packers, he passed up some good opportunities to run and exercised too much patience IMO. Newton's justifiable confidence in his arm's ability to make nearly every throw is in contrast to VY's rookie season when tucking and running was his primary instinct.
I'm sure we'll see VY this year since Vick is out. He looked good in the preseason before he pulled his hamstring. McCoy looks good
Hahaha, your argument is simply "potential" I'll take reality, and that reality is Young's 30-17 career record, something Cam will never come close to reaching. I guess Dan Marino is a better QB than Brady or Joe Montana.
Marino was awesome. Miami didn't have a good defense or running game back in the day. One of the most best pure passers of all time.
How can you possibly know this? Reality is Vince was benched, cut and the team that picked him up has one of the best QBs in the game locked up for several years. Weird that all those teams with crappy QBs didn't sign Vince. And reality is Cam Newton is starting and impressing a heck of a lot of people. http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2011/09/19/re-focused-packers-panthers-week-2/ 2) Newton continues to raise eyebrows Yes there were mistakes, there was a concerning lack of accuracy on his throws and QB fundamentalists will be having fits about his mechanics, but at the end of the day Cam Newton (+4.2) was again extremely impressive. His first quarter was simply extraordinary and after struggling through the second and third quarters he regained his composure to lead a strong consolation drive to draw the Panthers within a touchdown at the end of the game. Some of the pre-draft concerns raised their head for Newton in this one but not to the extent that was expected and he has been more than anyone could have imagined in his opening two games. We’re still waiting for the Panthers’ running game to get on track and when it does teams are going to have real headaches defending Newton.
I am amazed at his first two games , i wouldn't of thought in a million years he would throw for this yardage in his first two games.
"Hahaha". You need to stop whatever you're smoking. I wouldn't give you a dime in Chinese money for VY. Unlike him, Cam Newton has a legit NFL arm and has a chance to be a long-term above-average NFL starting QB. The guy has started 2 games and you bring up Marino vs Brady? Kool-Aide. Honest question for you: If all NFL teams had a void at QB, in your opinion, how many of them would take VY over Newton? If you answer anything other than zero, please come back to planet Earth with the rest of us. I'll recommend a place to rehab.
I got POUNDED for saying McCoy would be a good NFL QB....absolutely hammered by the naysayers...like Moes and DonnyMost....OH, DD, you know NOTHING about football...lol.....kids and keyboards...SHEESH ! DD
