There may be a situation in the future where the other team scores more points than the Texans. What will the coaching staff do then? I honestly don't see a solution.
sorry if I missed it , but I dont speak Seinfeld!!.. Yall gotta let me in the club ... I can be your token black!!! Give a brutha a chance !!!
No, because I think if we can somehow gain more yards than the other team, we can still win the game.
No way. We need scores, period. With a HC like Kubiak, having less points on the scoreboard at the end of the 4th quarter is basically a sure loss. Cowher and Gruden would be able to turn yardage into wins, regardless of score.
If the defense wants to be better than the offense then they need to score more points. Right now the offense has scored way more so they are winning. The Texans D has solid to good ends and safeties. Linebackers overall are decent but not great. They have one good cornerback and a bunch of trash, and they have trash at NT. All of that adds up to not enough touchdowns. Next game we will see if the D can score 50-60 points and overcome the offense but right now it is WAY too early to tell.
When the corners still copy notes from the David Gibbs system of 10 yard redzone cushions, this defense is only better than the Seahawks' and Chiefs' offenses. However, I'm always looking forward after punts and kickoffs to see the defense take the field. It's an exciting unit to watch, especially after seeing those random vanilla offensive possessions flounder.
SITUATION: 4th and 5. QUESTION: Do you have more confidence in our Offense getting the 1st down or our defense stopping the other team from getting the 1st down? Rocket River
How are the LBs "decent" when 3 of them have been allpros? Manning and Quin are definitely not trash in the secondary
Great question...pretty close, my confidence in the defense has been on the rise. At this point though, I still take the offense. Youve got the best WR in the game, RBs that can catch out of the backfield, a few tight ends that are more than capable, a solid OLine, and a top 10 QB. There are too many weapons on that side of the ball...lots of different formations that can confuse the hell out of any defense.
If it's 4th and 5 on the goal line, I'd trust the offense more. Still too much CB cushion in short yardage situations, and still susceptible to the quick slant.
From what we have seen so far, I would say that i trust the red zone defense a tad more. Remember I said from what we have seen so far, this is without Foster, but the D has really shown that when the field gets shortened they are going all out. We have allowed opponents into our redzone 7 times, only giving up 2 TDs and 2 Fgs Pretty impressive Redzone D
So far this year, the defense. But we've played some horrific offensive teams and Arian Foster hasn't been 100%.
For all the credit the D is getting it should be mentioned that in crunch time when we were all getting really really nervous the Texans marched down the field and scored the AJ TD.
Really quite easy to answer the first question and the second point had nothing to do with my post: 1. Ryans - all-pro pre devastating injury...not sure yet how much he can regain, Cushing - all-pro when roided up...was average last year and this year has had one good and one ho-hum game, Mario - all-pro as a defensive end so still uncertain about full year or longterm prognosis. Combine these plus limited depth, small stature in the middle against the run, two liabilities against the pass on the ends, add a decent Connor Barwin and you get a "decent" unit. 2. I know. I labeled them as good safeties. Quin I think is a pretty decent corner as well. Corners outside of Joseph are trash. 3. Still not enough points.
Pretty impressive redzone D? I enjoy whenever this defense takes the field but let's not mistake very fortunate circumstances for the deepsteel blue curtain. Saying something like "We have allowed opponents into our redzone 7 times, only giving up 2 TDs and 2 Fgs" is a bit misleading when it was really 7 times, 2 tds, 1fg, 2 missed fgs, one block and one turnover on downs. Scoreboard don't lie but it doesn't tell everything. They've played one offense that's currently bottom 5 in points scored and total yardage, and another that just replaced it's entire ground game with Reggie Bush and a rookie. And despite that, "all out" wasn't enough for them to try and play tight on Marshall or doubleteam him. Once Foster's back the Texans will return to converting at a 60% clip and even higher, with OD back to form. Or maybe if they ever gave Vickers a chance to plow over some DLines.
I'm willing to give Cushing a pass on....well, the entire year last year. The suspension hurt him, obviously. No excuse, since he brought it on himself, I know. But when he came back, he was asked to play out of position by what we now know was a COMPLETELY INEPT coaching staff. Hard for anyone to be successful under those circumstances, IMO. I'm not ready to say "HE'S BACK!!!!!11" because of 1 game, but he sure did look like the Cushing of old on Sunday. I'm hoping it's because he finally has a coach who knows what the hell he's doing, for a change.
I'm still scratching my head on how Cushing got 10 tackles and Demeco only got 1. To be fair, in Indy they both had 4 solos and Cush had 1 more assist than Demeco (3/2). Just watched the Kubiak Monday afternoon presser and he said Demeco was switched out in certain defensive packages.
