50/50 - advance screening back in July, great movie, what "Funny People" should've been, another solid performance by Joesph Gordon Levitt, the guy is just picking all the right roles after doing independent flicks and I'm in love with Anna Kendrick

Crazy, Stupid, Love - I like Gosling as an actor, but didn't like his role here, his monotone voice just doesn't sell me a smooth talker, like Will Smith was in Hitch. Other than that, movie was great, wish Emma Stone and Marisa Tomei had a bigger role. With Steve Carrell doing this, along with his other dramatic, less comedic roles (Dan in Real Life), he's showing his acting range outside of comedy

Fright Night - Didn't really have any expectations, only watched it cause my cousin says Anton Yelchin is his boy ever since Alpha Dog and Charlie Bartlett, but was entertained. Colin Farrell did his role perfectly and Sofia Vergara's sister is pretty hot also.....

My Idiot Brother - not your LOL type of comedy it tried to advertise in the trailers, but I still enjoyed it. Zooey Deschanel and Rashida Jones played lesbian lovers, that alone is worth watching....

Warrior - mentioned it in the thread, solid, solid movie. Wasn't high about it, but its freaking Bane in the movie. Hardy, Nolte, and Edgerton deserve some type of recognition. Maybe cliche from other boxing movies, but can say its the best MMA movie out there, and I have no intentions in seeing Never Back Down

Other Movies not in theaters caught on DVD or Netflix

Middle Men - really surprised this movie didn't get any run while in theaters. Not a fan of Luke Wilson, but he was good for this role. The trailers were running in front of most summer movies last year, but when it was released in Aug, no theater in Houston carried it. Caught it on DVD, and it was better than I thought. Nice nostalgic look at the beginning of the internet and...... p*rn

Girlfriend Experience - in this fiction documentary style of a movie shot in 2 weeks, its different. Sasha Gray, I actually like more in her non adult film roles, and was a better actress here than she was in last season's Entourage. Not for everybody, I even watched 1/2 of it first, then the rest the next day and its a 80 min movie.

btw, CCR, I looked up that D-Box seating, good lord $17 for a ticket? I guess its about the same as Imax 3D, need to wait for the right movie to try it.

The thing that ruined it for me was the "realistic" Freddy.

The original Freddy scared me because 1) I was a little kid, and 2) he had a demonic look to him.

The new Freddy felt like a burn victim with a good sense of humor on Halloween.

I wasn't scared, and I even felt a little sorry for him.

Yeah, it's $17 but that does include 3D as well, so the D-Box part is only an extra $4 or so. I really don't think it's that outrageous, BUT you definitely have to see the right movie to get proper value.

As I mentioned in my Conan review, I can see where the seats would be awesome for specific types of movies yet not for others. I believe they're now showing Warrior in D-Box, and I can imagine that being pretty cool.

On a side note, watching Conan was probably the strangest movie-going experience I've ever had. The cinema, which is brand new and very impressive, is located inside crappy Greenspoint mall. There was no one there - and I mean literally no one - besides me and my friend. The only employees we saw were one ticket taker, a guy working concessions, and a manager. The ticket booth wasn't even open - but rather had a note on the window asking people to purchase tickets at the concession stand. Of course, we ended up being the only two people in our entire theater so in addition to 3D and the D-Box seats we had the added pleasure of making fun of the movie as loudly as we wanted to, which was nice.

When we left, we saw the same two guys taking tickets and working the concession stand, and still no other patrons. It was depressing to see such a nice theater with almost zero business, even if it was a Wednesday night. In fact, it was kind of creepy being in such a large place when it's that quiet and empty, if I'm being honest. Just a weird experience all around.

Seems like you went to a $1 theater (i miss those), plus as you mention being in the Greenspoint area doesn't help. Funny u mentioned it was the Greenspoint location cause on Premiere Cinema's website, it hasn't been updated since they started building that same theater, so I guess their news section hasn't been updated in well over a year

Forgot to mention 1 more movie

Moneyball - Another advance screening SMG last week, its gonna get comparison's to Social Network because of Aaron Sorkin's writing. I enjoyed it and still wonder why they had to make up the Jonah Hill character. Quick funny story, I mentioned my thoughts about the movie to a few friends on Twitter and tagged Morey by mentioning he didn't get any plug. A few mins later it Morey Direct Messaged me and said "Gotta accomplish something first", and I responded "Neither has Beane, hell you have 2 wins up on him as far as winning streaks goes". Awesome....

I saw My Idiot Brother today and really enjoyed it. The flick is a near perfect bookend to The Big Lebowski, although more of a 7.5, rather than the 10 Lebowski is. Go see it. :)-

Saw The Conspirator last night (8 out of 10): another strong Redford movie, with very good performances by Robin Wright and James McAvoy.

We saw an independent film from Ireland at the Arbor Theatre (in Austin) this afternoon that was outstanding. Fantastical. Brilliant. Superb and, at times, hilarious. The flick? The Guard. I'm going to give it a well deserved 9. It stars Brenden Gleeson and Don Cheedle, with Mark Strong in a supporting role, fresh from his gig as The Bad Guy in Sherlock Holmes.

    Go see it, like yesterday.

We went to the Arbor again in Austin and saw the best suspense thriller I've seen in years, Point Blank. No, it's not the John Boorman directed thriller from 40 years ago starring Lee Marvin (also excellent), but rather a new French film sharing only the title, directed by Fred Cavayé and starring Gilles Lellouche, Roschdy Zem, Gérard Lanvin, Elena Anaya, and Claire Perot. This is a superb flick. Yes, it's in French, with subtitles, but after the first 5 minutes, you won't even notice. Go see it!

    Point Blank - Rating: 9.5

    After.Life - 7/10

Twas a decent flick. Lots of Christina boobage, although she's always been a scary looking gal since I can remember. Unfortunately the movie doesn't tell us what happens to those who gets buried. Do they "move on" or just stay in the darkness of the pit for eternity?

    Unknown - 5/10

A typical Liam Neeson action flick, except with not as much action in it this time around. Would have given it a much higher rating if the action was more spread out.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow - 8/10

I haven't seen this in a long long long long time when it first came out, so I had forgotten what it was about. Man I forget how gorgeous Gweneth is. She's very underrated amongst the ass and boobs celebrities today.

    Bridesmaids (2011)

Only 3 funny scenes in the entire movie. Apatow spends too much effort trying to build a story arch and teach us morals when real comedies shouldn't give a **** about that kind of stuff. It gives the movie mass appeal and makes it relatable, but why not just push the limits of the humor itself? I had to fast forward every time the cop came on the tv.

    The funny scenes are:

    3. The engagement party speeches, where both bridesmaids wanted the last word

    2. Bridal fitting scene. Look awayyy

    1. Plane. You dooooo, this whole scene had me in fits of laughter.

Helen was excellent. Rest were alright.

Lion King 3D - 9.6/10. A classic. A near-perfect animated movie. Right at the end, the 3D was a little off, kept it from being better.

As horror movies go it was pretty good. I always like movies that are frightening for more than just stupid "surprise" or "gore" value. I thought the dynamic with trying to reconcile the death of his daughter was also fairly well done.

I saw the version with the original (not theatrical) ending. Reading about the edited ending, I think I prefer the original.

    7/10.

    Just Wright - 1/10

I feel dumber for watching this POS. I blame this solely on the friggin owners and players association for extending the lockout. I think I'm gonna watch that Juwanna Mann movie again to wash this crap out of my memory. Maybe even a little Space Jam.
