What do we base what makes one player greater than another? I thought it was rings after its all said and done. If it's not, a strong case could be made Lebron is better than Jordan too.

Anyway, Olajuwon was far and away more talented overall.

There is a lot I never liked about Shaq. But I thing I always admired about him was the respect he showed Hakeem.

Shaq was in his prime ever since his second year. He wasn't as good as he was during the 3 peat but he was still in prime form and especially shape. You didn't have conditioning or motivational issues with that version of Shaq.
So prime Shaq did meet prime Hakeem in the finals although Hakeem had declined defensively but he was playing the best I have ever seen him offensively.

Shaq was the league's top scorer when we faced him in the finals.

I had totally forgot about that. Thanks for bringing it up. Now that you think about it, he could have won back to back scoring titles if Robinson didn't stat pad for 71 in 94.

The 95 finals must be the only year the scoring champ was outscored in every single game of the series. Rare achievement.

An accumulation of awards? titles are all well and good, but what happens if some guy decided even though he was winning the mvp successively he'd rather stay with his ****ty team and never win a title? (let's just call him Notbron)

It's difficult to compare people of different generations but it's about as objective a measurement as anything (for example, Russell's 11 titles wouldn't come near Kareem's, 6 titles, 6 mvps, 10 first teams and heck I'd rate Wilt's 4 mvps and 7 first teams ahead of Russell who was 0 and 3)

Russell was in a team of hall of famers in an 8 team league, Kareem spent almost his whole career teamed up with one of the 2 best point guards in nba history, and then there's Wilt who never really got to play with any real talent until he was about 30, we had Moses during an era of extreme ****tiness, Hakeem had team scrub for a few years after the twin towers and other stuff crippled the franchise's potential, etc

How bout taking Shaq at the center and Hakeem at PF? Shaq would plug the lane and Hakeem would come off the swoop in for the weak side swats. He'd average about 5 blk/game. Fill it out with Magic, Jordan and Bird at the 1, 2 and 3.
