Starts in January at best, no season is the most liekly scenario, worst case is it never ends.

    Got this text from SR610

"Negotiations between NBA owners and players abruptly break off. Union officials are warning players that half the season may be lost to the lockout."

too bad they can't just have an emergency 1-year extension to the current CBA just so they can keep playing while yammering about the details of the next CBA.

It doesn't make any difference when the drop-dead date is, nothing will productively hapen until that date was passed. So not extending it will actually give us NBA games sooner than extending it would. I have faith in the sport of pro basketball!

most players get paid until november. when the new season usually starts is when their new years salary starts to be collected. until then they will stand strong hoping for the owners to budge.

a few weeks into november when the players start missing paychecks they will start to pressure the union to get a deal done. hunter and fisher should be feeling the pressure build by the end of november when players have gone about a month with no checks. they should be willing to strike a deal sometime in december.

if that happens then we could still have half a season. january would be free agency and preseason. regular season could be from february to when it usually ends, around mid may. 4 months of regular season would be about half a normal year.

my vote, and hope, is half a year. the players would be stupid to hold out longer than that. the owners obviously aren't budging even if there is no season.

I just dont think they will get anywhere this season. It would be better for us if we dont have a 2011 season.

I think the Season will start in either late November or early December and be about 70 games.

Personally, I'm pessimistic. I think both sides have dug in their heels, and it all comes down to how adamant the league is going to be about eliminating the soft cap.

There are a number of teams (Washington, Denver, Toronto, etc) with ties to the NHL, and those owners are said to have rallied a lot of the small market owners to buy in to the strategy used in the NHL lockout. They ditched the season to get massive financial restructuring and are happy they did so.

NFL was bluffing. Both sides. I don't think the owners are bluffing. I don't think the NBPA has the sense to realize that. I think the players' jump to take paychecks overseas will lower their willingness to cave.

Thankfully, the NFL is going and the Texans may finally break the glass ceiling into January for once. NCAA basketball will be the best season in a solid decade.

Best wishes, NBA. Take care of your business.

I think a 50 game season is optimistic.

Best case scenario, I'd expect half a season but honestly wouldn't be surprised if the whole season is lost.

I'm in the "no season" camp.

I think they're just too far apart, and the owners appear adamant about the hard cap, and I can't see the players giving up on the guaranteed contracts, nor do I think that would necessarily be good for the game.

For whatever it's worth, I think both sides are approaching things the wrong way, so I can't imagine this ending well any time soon.

this is exactly where i am on it. i'd guess, if they play, it will be with a season reduced in half or reasonably close to that. but i won't be at all surprised if there's no season at all.

I'm optimistic after some recent articles I've read. If its actually fact. Fining Michael Jordan of ALL people really makes me wonder though...

But I think its too late to put together a full season. Besides, I'd rather see full training camps and pre-season games. I kinda like the idea of a 60-70 game season anyway as Battier suggested a long time ago.

From what I've read, pre-season games are first on the chopping block ahead of training camp and regular season games.

Going to lose some games, then both sides will be willing to give in to save profits to be lost otherwise.
