the olympics are mainly individual sports and other than the country aren't associated with alot of different institutions. if you start paying players i believe the problems feard in the previous paragraphs rear their ugly heads. essentially, the rich schools only get richer, just look at the problem the longhorn network has created for itself. i have to look it up, but i think you and i have both stated that a lot of programs don't make money, programs you wouldn't even think. maybe the players should have rights to sign endorsement deals in college and leave the schools out of paying
Here's what I'm hearing now: 1. ACC/Big 12 merger idea is picking up steam. I'm hearing BU is included in that. (remember, one of my sources is a BU guy so their inclusion or exclusion is always going to be discussed in these "updates"). I sent an email asking who else would be included and who would be excluded...haven't heard yet. 2. Big 12 conference expansion committee is still working away. Most in Big 12, including OU, want a 12 team conference. UT loves the 10 team conference. BYU is all in if asked...my guy literally said, "they'd join tomorrow if we'd invite them." Pitt, Louiville and Cincy getting consideration. 3. OU wants equal revenue sharing if that includes Tier 3 rights and a Big 12 network. Texas isn't about to let go of LHN. OU wants what UT has for its Tier 3 rights, but no one's buying. OU is frustrated with this and Texas won't budge. 4. 8 of 9 remainig Big 12 schools' first choice is sticking in Big 12. But because of OU's courting of Pac 12 (in the midst of serving on expansion committee for Big 12) there is little trust among remaining members. Everyone is trying to find a soft landing spot "just in case." 5. Aggies are pissed off they can't have their pep rally yet.
I know, that is what is so funny.....they will get their chance to cheer, just got to let the big wigs at the other schools figure things out first. DD
All these schools working their asses off around-the-clock... like a bomb just went off... no clue where they'll end up. TAMU just waiting it out. Spoiler Also, ISU using money they don't have to build things like a big screen seems funny to me. Like the South Park where Mexico starting building theme parks and stuff based on stolen intergalactic space money. Suckers.
do you think most Ags get now that this isn't about trying to keep them from going to the SEC, but was just to slow crap down generally? i don't expect most people are as obsessed with all this as i am, so i don't know that they've been following closely enough to understand that. i think the storyline in College Station will forever be that Baylor tried to stop A&M from going to the SEC....whether that's correct or not.
No clue what most Ags think. Probably something stupid, I know they made some anti-Baylor shirts recently. Selling like hot cakes I imagine. Also, the school plans on "whiting out" for the Baylor game -- so it seems like whoever are the powers in Aggie Land are going with the flow... or at least having fun with it. Personally, I think its fun to rag on Baylor. I'm dating a Baylor chick right now actually. Have a friend who loves Baylor because of his Baylor chick. Its just fun and games making fun of them and their 12,000 alumni. I always understood what Baylor needed to do, but I let it be known that it annoyed me to no end. If I was a Baylor-bro I wouldn't want to step on TAMU's dick like that. It just seems... desperate. I don't like the idea of anyone trying to keep the conference together at this point either. Its time to let her go.
Hey where'd you find my pic? How'd you know that was me? Tracking my IP? Backtracing you, calling the police, watch out.
It was desperate, honestly. To potentially lose that much money over that long of a period of time would make any program desperate. BU isn't alone in not releasing claims for that very reason. Mizzou didn't release claims either. Too much money budgeted for athletic department from media money that might fly away if conference dissolves.
They shouldn't have been trying to spend money that didn't exist. Their mouth was writing checks that their ass can't cash. Spoiler gig'd em
i laughed at spoiler. athletic departments always budget from TV revenues from deals they inked...particularly deals they just inked in the last 12 months. honestly, it's ludicrous to expect that Iowa State wouldn't start spending that money when they're being told they need to spend MORE money to keep up with the conference they just committed to.
Yep. Only 12k alumni. Baylor is known to the toughest school to get into in the Big 12 with the lowest acceptance rate. 39,000 students submitted applications for this year. Around 12,000 applications were approved. This freshmen class is the best ever in Baylor's history. What a second-rate academic school! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baylor_University Spoiler
OU Board of Regents is meeting Monday, with conference realignment on the agenda - so that's probably the next big bombshell. If UT -> ACC happens, it's going to be amusing hearing Belmont talk about how it was their first choice, it's best for the athletes, etc. Meanwhile, a year ago, when they had their choice of any conference in the country without restrictions, they were completely on board with the Pac10. So either they didn't care about student athletes a year ago, or they are simply lying to justify a decision completely based on LHN.
If UT ends up joining the ACC or if some kind of Little 12/ACC merger happens, Texas A&M can say their decision involuntarily changed UT's destiny, not the other way around.
Great article....depending on your allegiances... http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsext...id=203&articleid=20110915_203_B1_OLDFAS164035
