Who and where did I say I hate OSX? I actually love OSX. I wished there are some stuff in OSX that could be implemented into Windows 7. What I don't like about Apple is their practice and their locking things down. It makes me laugh people think I'm a Windows fanboy when I actually hated Windows XP and Vista. I'm willing to put up with Windows XP because it can run those old machines I have lying around. Have try Ubuntu but it's a pain in the ass trying to find all the proper working drivers for it but XP is the best modding OS themes so that it doesn't look like the crappy default skin and with all the drivers compatible for it.

I would love to know your machine(PC) specs.

I've worked with literally 5,000+ IT professionals in developing their career documents, and almost no one complains about Apple products. So, whatever negativity Cowboy is spreading, he/she is in the definite minority.

Attention Apple fanboys and Steve Jobs nut huggers/semen guzzlers:

You are correct, your mac and OSX and Ipad and Ipod and iphone and Itampon all look much shinier and prettier than my windows-based devices. In addition, they do "just work" in your simplistic little minds because it's obviously too hard for you to learn to press ctrl + alt + dlt and end process to anything that's frozen in windows. However, when it comes to applications that us productive members of society use to solve REAL WORLD problems, your shiny OSX can't hold Windows XP's jockstrap. We have shiny 27" iMacs at the Chemical Engineering department of my academic institution. Guess what those shiny computers are running? WINDOWS. You know why? because us engineers actually use the computer (ie: the magic box) for work, not just d!cking around (and yes, artists, with all due respect, the "art" you do on your little OSX magic boxes, while admirable and beautiful, is considered "d!cking around" when compared to ACTUAL work ya know).

As this Mac vs. PC pissing match seem to never end, combined with the fact that the concepts I presented above are probably to complex for your simple minds to comprehend, I fully understand that this post is completely pointless and won't change a thing. However, it's 5 am, and I can't sleep, and there's nothing much to do, so might as well.

But there is a little take away from all of this: yes, your mac is awesome. It's twice the price of my equally optioned PC, but it's much prettier and the UI is a lot more simplistic and intuitive. Cherish that. Appreciate that. But please don't go around saying that Macs are superior products, because, well, that just makes you look stupid.

    Very Respectfully,

Your fellow BBSer who frequently uses the computer for non d!cking around purposes and who prefers NOT paying double the price for shininess.

first tablet that i'd give up the laptop for (provided that i also purchased a hardware keyboard for home)

coverage has been on thisismynext, engadget, and bgr.

I watched a good bit of the keynote this morning from the //build conference. Really excited about Windows 8. The developer preview will be available for download later tonight.

I'm so totally excited. I'm pretty sure this will save laptops and netbooks. This is how a tablets OS should be done. It's amazing it's running pretty smooth on a full OS. I can't wait to test this on my lowly machine. God I just hope this will be portable onto the HP Touchpad.

**** Windows. I switched over to Ubuntu a couple of years back and haven't regretted it for even a minute.

To the guy who is an engineer, could it be on windows because they have the majority of users(although declining) so most programs still at the time make it for windows rather than mac, its not about what is best, but what is more reaching to the masses....?

That said, once I went to mac, It was hard to go back as it just had a great flow to it. This windows 8 is the first time I am giving windows some attention again to create something innovative

Windows if executed correctly will kill the Ipad. People want full functionality for their tablets, and current tablets such as the ipad suck at everything other than content consumption and its not that great at that either.

I can't see how they could have full functionality on a tablet and be anywhere near as easy to use as a PC. Working in Excel would be so difficult because you need the precision you get from a mouse and the speed you get from a full keyboard.

I saw a tablet at Fry's that was running Windows 7, and it was essentially useless unless your fingertips are pinpoints.

In these videos, Windows 8 looks like a nice tablet UI on top of regular Windows. I want to see how (if) they've updated Office to be usable on the tablet.

Chill out, both MAC OSX and Windows 7 are great pieces of software.

I personally prefer MAC OSX, though I do use Windows for my Android development.

There's a poster who made a reference to Hackintosh, that software is great. Can be a little challenging but you can hit up the OSX86 project to find if your drivers are compatible with your machine or not. Lifehacker also has great tutorials.

I like MAC OSX, with Windows XP via Parellels 6 (Extremely stable), I've yet to try Parells 7 though with Win 7

    To the engineer guy,

    $su
    dsmeg |Grep

Most Windows users who don't "dick around", don't know **** about Unix, so to criticize Mac users for having a nicer GUI is r****ded.

Don't try to make it seems like Windows users are more intelligent or whatnot because they can use a command prompt, or close out tasks via the task maanger.

Which to effectively do the proper command would be

    TASKKILL /IM yousuck.exe /F

not, none of that end task crap via CTRL+ALT_Delete

meh, once again Windows is the last to even enter the scene. Windows Phone 7 was a nice piece of software yet no one bought it because it came out so late. Plus there are hardly any apps for it.

It's the same again for Windows 8, solid idea but years too late. iPad and Android are already in the tablet market and will continue to be a step ahead of Windows 8. I'm sure Android and iOS devs are already working on stuff similar to the improvements you see in Windows 8.

Until Microsoft can come up with something that's truly revolutionary rather than just adding their own spin to software that was created years ago it will always fall behind and fail.

Microsoft needs to just concentrate on Office and traditional Windows, as it is the only thing that they haven't lost marketshare in.

Eh don't worry. It's getting so bad I hardly even post anymore in these sorts of things... I see nothing wrong with your post...

This statement is beyond wrong. I don't even know where to begin... Even the biggest apple fanboys agree that WP7 is more than just a MS take on the smartphone product. Plus, Apple hasn't revolutionized a thing since the iPhone 3g. If you read up on Windows 8 you can see it isn't just a shell or a skin or a response to the tablet market, it is something completely new and revolutionary. The fact that they can manufacture a tablet running an x86 core that competes with the iPad and beats out anything android has out there is compelling. Those aren't my words, those are the words of the apple fanboys at Gizmodo.

I think you might be blinded by your apple fandom. Go out, hold a WP7 phone with mango and look me in the eye and say it isn't 100x the phone an iPhone is. I think the people who comment on WP7 in general seem to know nothing about it, and that's down right depressing. I dropped my Samsung Focus a day ago, I have the choice of getting a new focus or an iPhone 4, which do you think I'm going to get?

At least microsoft is trying to deviate from the flawed and sad approach that is the "There's an App for that" philosophy. Apple's core base is the app store. Android is catching up, and WP7 already has over 30,000 apps on the marketplace. As developers swing over it pushes OS developers to make better software as well. Apple has stood by and watched as the other guys have shown what they can do. So if you ask me, you've got it ass backwards here...

lol, it's easy to have a better interface if you come out with something years after the true innovative software came out...unless you think Windows Phone 7 was about the same before the iPhone came out.

Sorry, but Windows Phone 7 wasn't innovative, it was a skin that Microsoft made.

As for the tablet, it's not really that innovative. They it's akin to Parallels on a Mac except for Windows. And instead of running a virtual windows machine you run a touch based UI. Nothing special IMO.
