Oh its awful now. My buddy in Vancouver is constantly complaining. Just comparing McDonalds alone it was pretty shocking. A 20 piece mcnuggets (god knows why he likes that) costs 3 Canadian dollars more than what it costs here. He wanted to buy a paintball gun and found it was almost 100 dollars cheaper in the US. The more expensive the item, the better the deal is in the US.
I am American citizen living/working in Calgary and America is indeed my Mexico. I drive down to Kallispel, Montana to get electronics, DVDs, booze, and cheap microbrews. The best part is that at the less populous border crossings, the Canadian border patrol doesn't make a big deal if you bring back over your limit in booze. It was better when the loonie was 1.05 to our USD, but we're closer to par again. I cant complain about that since all my investments are in the US, but it was fun being paid in a stronger currency for a summer. Everything up here is expensive as hell. Except steak and gasoline. However, the wages are up are nice. Like NY.
So true, I used to always drive down to Washington from Vancouver to buy everything. Since the Candian dollar's doing so well lately it is really saves a lot of money shopping in the US
