I just moved up to Austin and I'm looking for a good spot to watch Texans games. Would love to find a place with a lively atmosphere that also plays the sound for the games. I live near downtown but willing to drive a bit if necessary. Thanks people.
No real "Texans" place in town. Good sports bars all over. But if the cowboys are playing at the same time, I'll guarantee that's the one that'll get the sound.
I'm down to watch it with other Austin folks if folks want to get together...I'm pretty close to downtown as well, so anywhere works..
The important question is what sports bar in South Austin has the cheapest beer and best tomahawk steaks on Sunday, then lets just make it a Texans place. Da Texans
wat I don't know of any particular spots, but I'm down to watch as well. The amount of Dallas love in Austin is sickening.
Ended up just watching the game at home but I'd be down to try next Sunday. I went to 3rd base several years ago. Nice big place, but it was packed. I think Texans are the late game next week so not sure if that would make it better or worse for finding a table.
I went to Pluckers one night last week and they pissed me off. Their seating policy is the most r****ded thing I've ever encountered. They wouldn't let my wife and I sit at a booth even though there were 7 of them open. They said those are reserved for big parties and that it was about to get packed. When we left there were still 7 booths open.
i love pluckers, i did go watch the game on sunday at the one off 183 and burnet, Texans fans sprinkled throughout but not an overwhelming crowd. I really wish there was somewhere where Texans fans just flooded the place.
It's the Texans own fault. They've done nothing to change that in Austin. I remember about 6 or 7 years ago when their caravan came through. It was the backup long snapper, a 5th receiver (Sloan Thomas I think), and the guy who wraps their wrists. It was pathetic. There's no radio station that carries them. 1300 decided to go with the game of the week instead of picking up the Texans when they lost the cowboys to 104.9. It's a mystery every week if KEYE will even televise them. Thank G-D VY went to Philly where KEYE now can't choose to televise them since they're NFC. Would one training camp in Austin be so bad? Why do they think the cowboys go to the Alamodome every summer? They make a huge production out of it. If the Texans brass had any brains when it comes to growing the brand, they would have the first part of camp in Austin every year so that there's some awareness that there's even another NFL team in the state. Outside of boneheaded coaching and personnel moves, this is the one thing that has pissed me off the most about the Texans. [/rant]
It's history. The Cowgirls held training camp here at St. Eds for YEARS. Like Leroy said, the Texans have basically done nothing to foster the development of a fan base in Austin. I went to the "unveiling" of the name/logo at the mayor's office back in the day. I was one of about 13 people (which included local media) who attended.** Also, 1300 carries the Texans again (at least they did Sunday). **I'm still bummed the Texans didn't stay with the white helmet from the debut. That thing was awesome. I still have two original shirts with that version.
that's messed up. There are plenty of places to watch the NFL/College games in town. you should drive up a little north and go to Cover 3. It's got decent food and lots of TVs, projections. http://cover-3.com/
The reality check in Texas is that the Cowboys have always been more popular than any team in Houston, that's the unfortunate truth. This hit me when I went to college eons ago at UT, when everybody was rooting for the Cowboys. The biggest Cowboy fans? they were people I knew from Houston. When I got new roommates junior year.. yup they were Cowboy fans.. from Houston! Fortunately the Rockets love in Austin has always been pretty good.
EDIT: I stand corrected. Just saw on their site that they are now Austin's official station for the Texans. Yet, still I have to endure "cowboys reports" every day. Weird.
I hear this guys house is awesome and he a really kind host who will let you watch his TV and the Texans boys. Spoiler
