Federer and Djokovic DOWN THE WIRE! I'm rooting for Djokovic. EDIT: I meant to say "and it's only the first set!"
Incredible match between two tennis heavyweights. To me, Federer only wins this match if he wins in four sets. If he lets Djokovic take the fourth, I think he takes the fifth as well. Momentum will be too much at that point and Federer has lost some matches like that as of late. Notably, to Tsonga at Wimbledon.
For those of you who pay more attention to tennis, why isn't the draw set up such that you have 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 like most sports? Shouldn't the benefit of being the #1 seed be that you don't have to play 2 or 3 until the final?
From wikipedia: "One version of seeding is where brackets are set up so that the quarterfinal pairings (barring any upsets) would be the 1 seed vs. the 8 seed, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5; however, this is not the procedure that is followed in most tennis tournaments, where the 1 and 2 seeds are placed in separate brackets, but then the 3 and 4 seeds are assigned to their brackets randomly, and so too are seeds 5 through 8, and so on. This may result in some brackets consisting of stronger players than other brackets, and since only the top 32 players are seeded at all in Tennis Grand Slam tournaments, it is conceivable that the 33rd-best player in a 128-player field could end up playing the top seed in the first round. While this may seem unfair to a casual observer, it should be pointed out that rankings of tennis players are generated by computers, and players tend to change ranking positions very gradually, so that a more equitable method of determining the pairings might result in many of the same head-to-head matchups being repeated over and over again in successive tournaments." I agree with most of the above, but in this case, Federer is a MUCH better opponent than Andy Murray. I still wish they did sandwiched the women's final between the two men's semis. They only changed this when women's tennis became popular again with the William's sisters (and was overall a more competitive and rally-based game). Now, the men's game is clearly the more competitive one and makes for much better viewing.
Fed had it for the taking with novak all upset, but he had so many unforced errors in the last few sets. Maybe fed has lebronitis.
He's not P. Diddy, just Diddy. Ya'll so 2008. Back to topic: Great match, loved how Djokovic played with the crowd and brought the atmosphere to an even more ridiculous level. Watchin Kerber-Stosur right now, as a German I'd like to see Kerbi win, but the chance of that happening is pretty much....zero. Stosur bein one of my favourite players makes it easier though, hope Caro can somehow win vs. Serena.
