There were high expectations by every sports fans and media outlets nationwide....And they had every reason to believe the hype......We on the other hand have high hopes... within city limits !!!!

Yes, couch potato keyboard warriors should always keep a humble mindset on the prospect of their hometown team. Dignity: it's the only thing.

Remember the Russian hockey team!!! We must not become like those commie scums!

Geez... how about.... almost every other Texans (and Rockets) preseason ever.

    J/K, but only slightly.

Don't be a d-bag. I know my posts don't make a direct impact on the team, but the team's attitude will reflect the city's attitude.

Yes, Andre, Schaub, and Kubiak should take down their Texans car flags ASAP.

Last year the Texans kept finding ways to lose (Glover Quinn Jacksonville anyone). I know it's a new d system and at least one quality cb who won't fall down but c'mon people the Colts are professional athletes. It's like some of you have never even watched the Texans before. This team has had the talent to make the playoffs in years past put a combo of piss poor coaching and epic meltdowns has made it hard for me to think were just gonna go out Sunday and roll the Colts who have one like 7 of the last 8 division titles.

Prior to last year, the Colts hadn't won fewer than 12 games since 2002, and have averaged altogether 11.5 wins/year since 1999 (which included a 6-win season in '01. They've averaged 12.1 since). So "Colts+Peyton win 10 games" is wildly disengenious.

It's historically a 12-win team with Peyton Manning.

Yes, but the Colts (with Manning), by all indications, are a lot closer to a 10 win team now than a 12+ win team.

I want to try to explain this to you, but I feel like you will just misconstrue things even further. So I will just let you float along on your cloud of ignorance.

Historically, yes...but that team has drafted poorly and done very little in free agency. They are on the decline...last year's 10 win season accurately portrays them.

While we continue to speculate on the outcome of the Texans opener, the bottom-line is will Team Disappointment break with their depressing past? This may be their best opportunity ever, but need I describe the let down that it would be for them to lay a colossal egg? The "I told you so's" will resound from coast to coast. If they win, they will get NO credit from the national media because it will be because of Peyton's absence. Hey, this is Houston sports, just the way it is.

Misconstrue that you're a worrying ninny? Relax, have a beer during the game, enjoy the season champ (champ in the colloquial sense, not really calling you or the Texans a champion of anything...)

Donny, Jason Lisk over at the Big Lead did a pretty thorough breakdown of past seasons in which teams lost future HoF starting QBs:
He goes into much greater detail and explanation in the article, which is an interesting piece of analysis, IMO.

I think 9 is the absolute ceiling for this team, with 6-7 being far more likely. And beating the Texans, while suprising (and most assuredly infuriating), is not impossible, especially in Indianapolis where Houston has never won.

(And I think joining the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes is a total pipe dream, BTW.)

I cant even imagine the s***storm in Houston if they ended up losing. Kubiak might be out of a job before he made it back to the locker room. I hope you all are right about it being a beat down I am just surprised how much the Colts are being down-played

Based on what?? They won 14 in 2009 (which followed 12 and 13-win seasons. Ten wins last year was an anomaly. As of right now.)

See my response to Donny - they won 14 two years ago. And that was because they pulled their starters the final two games. They were 14-0!

No way the Colts win nine games, they were barely a ten win team with this same cast. It's not that Collins is that bad but he's had zero time with his offense and Manning covered up so much of what's wrong with the Colts. That offensive line will get exposed badly by the Texans and Wade. They have no running game to exploit what might be a Texan weakness and their defense won't be able to stop Ward and Tate.

This is just a bad matchup for the Colts coming off this news. If this would have happened before the draft them they could have drafted a RB and reshaped the offense. Just a tough spot but they will fight until the end and no one gave the Rockets any shot against the Lakers and look what happened.

Texans aren't the Lakers, they know they haven't earned the right to sleepwalk past an opponent.

Texans 31-17...Tate with a big game and OD comes out strong.

    Anomaly?

    I see a trend.

They've been getting progressively worse in some areas, and at best, maintained the status quo in others.

Their defense, in particular, has been decaying the last 4-5 years. And their running game has literally evaporated to nothing. Now their OL is busted, and what isn't busted is total noobies.

They have all the markings of a team headed in the wrong direction. At first it was only statistically, now it is showing up in the W-L column.

    Defense:
    2007 - 3rd
    2008 - 11th
    2009 - 18th
    2010 - 20th

    Rushing:
    2007 - 18th
    2008 - 31st
    2009 - 32nd
    2010 - 29th

    1. Two years ago is a long time in the NFL
    2. The article you quoted agrees with the idea they are a 10 win team with Peyton
    3. I lol when people say things like "9 win team" and then say something like "6-7 wins is likely but maybe 9." This is the NFL, not MLB. 6-9 wins is a huge difference. You are talking about 20%! That would be like a baseball fan saying "I think my team could going to win 91 games but 60 seems more likely."
