You don't think we would get an invite? I say we would and Baylor being confident that they would get an invite doesn't disqualify the notion.

Read the article. $5 M less annually plus added costs are the reasons that Baylor rolled up their sleeves and did some dirty work. Not bc of us heading to a POS conference.

I don't think you would. And I'm very nonplussed by you posting an article stating that Baylor thinks Baylor is going to the Big East, with zero corroborating evidence from the Big East.

    Ahhhhh....

But - isn't that deal with the conference and not the individual schools? If it were with the schools, then Fox either doesn't care about A&M (hard to believe) or have also granted them their approval to exit the conference. So how does Baylor jump into that, given that the Big12 has said "OK" to A&M's request to leave? Shouldn't Baylor be suing the Big 12?........

(My head hurts. This lawyerin' is tough.)

An above-average basketball program with a rising football program gets us into the Big East. I hate to burst your bubble but we have a legit athletic program with the facilities to match. Which 2 schools coincedenatlly have all 3 'major' sports ranked? Baylor and Texas A&M. Plus, the TCU-Baylor match-ups are enticing. Wouldn't you agree?

We probably won't have to find out now though.

Not to mention the Big East is very likely the next conference to implode...

They'll be part of whatever forms from the non-64 schools locked into the 4 super conferences, I guess.

The Big East is on a screwed up trajectory. They're already a basketball "superconference" with a mediocre football lineup. West Virginia (the Big East's best football program) is probably going to bolt to the SEC but at the same time they make really good money on basketball and the chance to add premier basketball programs from the Big 12 would make an absurdly competitive basketball lineup.

Consequently they have an incentive to hold together based on basketball but not football. And schools like Syracuse and UConn have no incentive to go to the ACC since basketball wise the Big East is already better and as long as the Big East continues to have an automatic birth, the ACC isn't a big upgrade. Even TV revenue wise the ACC is only a couple of million dollars more and they are stuck in a long term deal. The Big East's tv contract is set to expire next year and with the crazy new deals that other conferences got (including the soon to die Big 12), the Big East will easily make more money than the ACC so financially (excluding WVU who will make more money in the SEC) the Big East will be the more profitable league.

The Big East's problem is the fact that they have so many schools that don't participate in football. Honestly with the new tv contract negotiations they need to figure out how to convince Notre Dame to play football in the conference and let them have their deal with NBC. That combined with TCU will be enough to keep them afloat.

The Big East or the ACC will have problems. Financially the Big East will be better off once they get their new contract but logically speaking the large amount of schools that don't play football will catch up to them. You can't have a basketball conference that large. We'll see where they go from here.

Does a 50-48 win over a totally depleted TCU team, and being ranked for the first time in god knows how long really give you that much delusions of grandeur in football? I hate to break it to you, but your trip to the top of this mountain isn't going to last very long with Briles at the helm. I fully expect Baylor to end up back in the basement of the Big 12 by years end.

And for that matter, your basketball program has already reached its zenith two years ago (which, even then wasn't anything more than a singular elite 8 appearance), and the spectre of those scandals you endured still looms very large. Sorry, but history indicates your major athletics are a liability for you, not an asset. You do very well in everything else though, so grats on that I suppose.

The Big East isn't stupid. They're not looking at Baylor and thinking "Boy, that's a program that could help us retain our BCS status" based on one, soon to be short lived, appearance in the top 25. Nor will they look at a singular NCAA tourney run as something to bank on for future basketball domination. Your facilities may be nice, and your academics decent, but Baylor's problem is that you don't bring it where it counts... the checkbook.

I will say this though, if Baylor is TCU's preference, you MAY have something here. Not sure how strong your bond is with those guys. But it may be time to start cozying up to the toads.

Baylor was ranked going into week 10 after beating Texas and Kansas State last season.

You don't like Art Briles. You don't like Baylor. We get it.

The men's team has 2 potential top 5 picks in the next NBA draft in Perry Jones and Quincy Miller. How can you say with a straight face that UH should be included in any AQ conference but Baylor shouldn't? Simply does not compute. I don't know about check books and all but I do know that Baylor collects about $350 M annually from tuition alone.

So you haven't mentioned any interest of UH being admitted to a major conference?

This isn't about UH and Baylor. It's about TCU and Baylor and the Big East. The Big East clearly wants a good football team. It's one consistent team is about to bail for the SEC on top of that. TCU has a track record of success. Gary Patterson has built a consistent contender.

Meanwhile Baylor has been getting BCS TV money for years and hasn't come close to the kind of success that TCU has had. Not to mention TCU has a nice tv market to boot.

As for Baylor's basketball success, its nice and attractive but the Big East isn't actively looking for more basketball powers. If they wanted that they'd just go get Kansas which would give them 10 times the market in basketball with a slightly worse football program (currently).

Don't really care about either. My opinion, from first-hand experience, is that Briles is a sub-par coach... but a lot of fun to watch, though. Baylor as a school, meh. It's whatevs. Just telling you the truth. From the Big East's perspective, Baylor makes little sense, unless TCU is very adamant about it.

I think Baylor should convince OU to stay but not require anyone to sign anything. And then once that's done, announce they are abandoning this disaster of a conference for the Big East.

LMAO. Wth is UH then? I've seen you go to bat for UH plenty of times.

UH fans will always be bitter about the Briles situation. Hell, I met 3 UH grads at Saint Genevieve on Kirby that brought it up immediately after I told them I was a Baylor grad.

Why do you keep on bringing up Houston? What does that have to do with this conversation?

    Don't be a hypocrite. That's all.

Like madmax mentioned, Baylor and Texas are in UH's corner. After all of this, I believe him.

Yeah, he left after promising us he wouldn't. He then used UH resources to recruit Baylor players. And then bailed on his team the eve of their bowl game. It was a sh***y way to handle his business. Unlike Kevin Sumlin, who played out the end of his tenure at OU, and didn't poach recruits for UH while on OU's dime. So yeah, congrats on landing that guy as your head coach. He's a real gem of a person. I can't begrudge him for leaving and getting paid, but I can begrudge him for the way he left. I don't fault Baylor for that, though. And yet despite all this, we're grateful for what he did when he was here, but we're even happier he left. Because at the end of the day, he's just not all that great of a coach, definitely not worth his price tag, and certainly not better than Sumlin. He's better than what Baylor had though, and so I'm sure you're happy with him. So more power to you. :)
