I’ve never argued otherwise. But Baylor’s approach offers no protection because, at the moment, they don’t need it. Fox hasn’t torn up its television contract; the Big12 hasn’t shut down its operating offices… If Baylor really wanted to protect itself, it would take all this energy and all these resources and dump them into saving a conference that is still very much alive. And in a way, I think that’s what they’re doing; I think the threat of legal action has nothing to do with A&M/SEC but everything to do with Oklahoma/PAC12. But that just means A&M is an innocent pawn being used here and from that perspective, I think their frustration is understandable.
Because it's ultimately a waste of time and money and does nothing more than delay the inevitable. Baylor has no case against A&M, Mike Silve or the SEC. Their only chance here is to save the Big12. If Oklahoma bolts, Baylor is finished as a BCS school, barring last-minute charity from UT.
they deserve a little frustration for not acting when they should've and causing all this mess in the first place.
Then Baylor would have been in much worse shape than they are. They'd have been left out in the cold and would not have even gotten the $18MM or whatever they got this past year. A&M's decision to stay for one year earned Baylor a ton of money.
"they" being A&M? You think they're at fault here? And what mess, btw? Again, what has Baylor, et al, thus far lost, exactly? The Big9 is still a viable conference with giant television contracts and two of the most powerful, most storied football programs in NCAA history. There is no mess if the Big9 salvages itself - is Baylor acting in the interest of doing so? I've not seen any evidence to suggest so.
That's certainly true. But one of those people (an SEC President) said that Ken Starr was personally calling SEC Presidents warning them of potential legal action. There's a lot of stuff being thrown around in the media that contradicts other stuff. But there is not a single source anywhere that has reported anything that even hints that Baylor was not at the center of all this.
The Big iX is fine! There is no dissension! All schools will still be here in 2013! We will all be rolling in the dough from our lucrative TV contracts. Texas A&M is still a proud member of the Big XII. Long live the Texas Football tradition!
See, this is where your point gets a little muddled. If A&M HADN'T waited for a year before making the decision, then Baylor would have lost out on their revenues for this past year because I have a hard time believing the Big 12 could salvage losing NU, CU, AND A&M all in one year. Also, the mess you refer to is not being caused by A&M. The way I understand it, this entire process is happening because Baylor is deathly afraid of OU leaving, which would CERTAINLY cause the collapse of the Big 12. A&M to the SEC is a done deal, but Baylor is trying to scare the other conferences into staying away from the remaining members of the Big 12. A&M is just the vehicle that Baylor is using to get its final destination, which is ensuring that its revenues don't get affected.
i was more joking because of the whole "oh noes, aggy is frustrated". i'm sure there are a lot of schools involved in this that are frustrated. i understand that had aggy left last summer, baylor wouldn't have this money. but aggy wouldn't have this frustration either. and yes, i firmly believe baylor, et al. are doing this to help secure their spot in a stable bcs conference and one of the ways to do that is to try and ensure that sec doesn't come poaching again.
Which is annoying. Like a little kid trying to get their divorced parents back together, ruining their dates, and keeping them from selling the house. Lulz, analogies = lulz = full blown r****d at this point. I hate this, I hate everything, just let us celebrate already sheesh.
hurry, someone call ziggy a whaaaaaaambulance. jesus, my three month old daughter doesn't cry as much as aggy. you're going to sec, don't worry you big baby. you'll be enjoying 5th place in the sec west in no time!
I don't presume to speak for him, but if I surmise correctly, he will be able to enjoy watching football on television in the exact same fashion as you and every other person in this thread. So, net-net, I don't know if this maneuver, or any future maneuvers, regardless of the outcome, will put the distance between him and you that you seem to desire or result in any new rights and privileges being transmitted down onto us common folk.
The Golden Girls' great-grandparents think your "aggy" line is old and that it goes a long way towards invalidating what may or may not be valid opinions because they are very obviously seeped in a vat of bias. (Actually, the GGs' GGPs really only said it was old; Airwolfe said the rest.) Just sayin'... And they have every right to be frustrated; their self-made, legal path to the SEC is being blocked by a self-interested Baylor, which lacks the clout and viability to do exactly what A&M is doing. Notice UT, OU, OSU and Texas Tech have been decidedly tight-lipped, regarding A&M? A&M has done nothing wrong here. Nothing. Not a thing. Their actions have had no known consequences and will likely not have any direct consequences. And they have no obligation to Baylor, or any of the other Big 9 schools, whatsoever. So what is Baylor plan here? Other than delaying the inevitable?
Actually we don't know that they haven't done anything wrong. It's one of the underlying themes behind the CYA waivers. I'm not saying they have, but we definately can't say they haven't. Well, actually we can. They should have left last year. None of these schools have obligations to each other. But they have obligations under the agreement that they were ok with 1 year ago, and a potential lawsuit if wrongdoing occured goes along with that. I don't see how anyone can knock either school. Everyone is just doing what's best for them and we all sound like a bunch of hypocrites picking sides.
The aggies are currently ranked in the top 10 in the nation right now. Better than most SEC schools. How do you figure that they will be a doormat in the SEC when they are better than a lot of the teams there now? What is your reasoning other than the fact that you hate the aggies?
