Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer (2010)

    9/10

A fascinating documentary about the Sheriff of Wall Street by the man who also directed the excellent film, "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room". My S.O. watched this with me and she was shocked at how such an honest man ever became attorney general, much less the governor of NY.

Elliot Spitzer was that rare breed of politician who fought for Main Street. Inevitably, his championing of the layman pissed off some of the most powerful and richest people in America who financed an organized effort to find any way to bring him down. Luckily for them - and unfortunately for us, Elliot provided them an opportunity. The rest is history.

When it was over, she and I both lamented how few people have been ever brought to justice in the wake of the ongoing financial crisis. That the one man who Wall Street feared brought about his own downfall. In a time where I think Barack Obama is too cautious and compromising, it's refreshing and incredibly sad to see someone ballsy like Spitzer go down versus white collar criminals. I just wish our current president could take a few cues from someone who could've been sitting in the Oval Office were it not for his hormones.

    Shark Night 3D : 4/10

Made me jump once. Story was ok... Just another one of those ehh "thriller" movies. I felt like I should have been watching it for free on starz or something.

    Katherine Mcphee was hot though.

    Paranormal Activity 2

I think I liked it a little better than the first. Maybe a few more scares, but I liked how this weaved itself into the first movie. Makes me wonder what's in store for 3.

    Amadeus(director's cut) 7/10

Pretty good movie. My only problem was the main actors Mozart and his wife. For some reason they're the only one with the Americanize accent and it totally threw me off.

Black Swan - 7/10 I think this movie was way too hyped. I don't see how Natalie Portman won an Oscar. I dunno.

Battle of Los Angels - 7/10 I actually enjoyed this movie. I have to thank this movie for giving me a new eye candy to drool over. Ramon Rodriguez. He is yummy. I remember him from Transformers 2 though but wasn't that yummlicious.

The Green Hornet - 4/10 Boring.

Scream 4 - 6/10 Nothing new here. Same formula as all the other Scream movies.
Bridesmaids - 6/10 Thought it would be funnier and it was too long.
The Adjustment Bureau - 8/10 Really enjoyed this movie.

30 mins or less 6/10 - nothing too great was entertained by it probably would not watch again though but was bored and needed a laugh and got some from it

Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame - 8/10 - pretty good martial arts film blending history and some mythology together. I always have a soft spot for these films so others may not like it as much as me but felt the acting was good and the scenes and images were very vivid and well crafted. I saw it in theaters but chances are there is probably a dvd/blu-ray rip of it out on the internet from china.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) - 3/10 - Trash. Plain and simple. No one can play Freddy but Robert Englund. Part of what makes the originals so good is Freddy's humor, and this had none of it. This thing was so terrible and forgettable I can't even remember most of what happened in the movie.

actually, Freddy's humor is what detracts from the ANOES series. the first one was the best because Freddy wasn't a goofball.

Conan The Barbarian in 3D with D-Box Seating (50%) - So, I wanted to try out this D-Box technology, but there's only one theater in Houston that has it, and this was the only movie utilizing it. I definitely would have preferred to see something else.

That said, I was fairly impressed with the seats, although I think they'd lend themselves much better to a movie with driving or flying. I think it would also be far more effective for handi-cam movies such as Cloverfield, and I imagine it would be pretty incredible for a football movie.

As for Conan itself, the dialogue and story line were extremely stale, and my first belly laugh occurred not 3 minutes into the film. Although, I do give it high marks for having absolutely brutal fight/death scenes and some nice boobage. That plus the novelty of 3D and the motion seats salvaged it from the depths of movie hell.

Adjustment Bureau - 6/10 - actually better than I thought it would be, thought I found the ending a little cheesy. It's kind of an interesting story and Matt Damon and Emily Blunt are pretty good in it. Worth watching on Netflix or Red Box.

Limitless - 2/10 - I thought it would be garbage and it was. I'm not sure why Deniro would sign up to do a movie like this. It was pretty terrible all the way through, but the end took it to a new level of terrible. Not the worse movie I've ever seen, but I'd never recommend it to anyone.

The Conspirator - 6/10 - if you're interested in the civil war and the trial regarding those who killed Lincoln, it's informative and I feel like I learned something (assuming the facts are accurate - there was a preview on our red box copy detailing how accurate the movie was). However, as a story, it was just alright. So if you want a history lesson, rent it, otherwise skip it.

Drive 8.5/10 - Gosling was great in this movie and definitely not what I expected I thought it would be a transporter like movie but instead I was pleasantly surprised with the acting, directing and the subtexts throughout the film. The pace of the film was a slow given that it would probably fall in the action category and not much dialogue but sometimes you learn a lot more about a character but what they dont say.

Contagion (83%) - Very well done film in every aspect. Not necessarily something I will remember for years down the road, but absolutely a solid movie that held my attention from start to finish.
