i really didn't read it all but point is, most coaches will initially trust a proven person. But what's important is that once that "younger" guy has proven he can produce, he has played under Kubiak. Hence, the JVG argument is a poor one.

If you didnt read it all, you could have just refrained from responding. Kind of pointless to mention that.

Yes, most coaches initially trust a proven person. Thats Kubiak...and Ive never once said thats a bad thing.

Where youre wrong is that the young player doesnt get on the field by proving himself...he gets on the field when the veteran doesnt live up to a certain standard. Big difference there.

I never brought up JVG...that was your idea.

I read these first two quotes and thought to myself, boy these sure are some cocky homers if they expect a playoff-less team to "smell a bye week" and to "cakewalk to a division title." But hey what do you expect, some people just can't control their excitement.

But then I read this third quote and just felt embarrassed for the poster. Shame on you for such reckless and beef-headed (yes, beef-headed) homerism.

I agree that ward would have more carries in the beginning than tate.

Look at what the Jags are doing, they are going to start Luke McCown over Blaine Gabbert. everybody thinks Gabbert will be the QB in the future, maybe he will start this season, if McCown sucks. Coaches give the starting job (or better place in the depth chart) in the first games to proven players.

Id be shocked if the Colts can put up more than 10 points.

Id be equally as shocked if the Texans cant put up more than 24 points.

You're gonna need to logically explain how they score so much. Reports say Collins can't wrap his head around the offense, whatever that is, and Addai is nothing to fear. Nor is their defense the physically grueling, grind-out style of defense.

They'll regret sleeping on a Manning-less Colts team. He's great; great-great even. But he's not single-handedly responsible for 5, 6, 7 wins a season. And keep in mind: Houston may not have the league's leading rusher and are debuting a brand new defense with roughly 78 players learning new positions. This is no cakewalk. Kerry Collins isn't Peyton Manning but he's not Curtis Painter, either.

I'm already bracing for voluminous amounts of vitriolic spewing if the Texans have to win on a last-second FG, or some such.

Seeing as how I predicted the same final score as couple of d's, I will go ahead and answer that.

We were a historically bad defense last year. One of the worst ever.
We have a brand spanking new D coach.

Sure we added a couple of nice pieces, but they are learning a new system, along with the rest of the team. We can't just have a couple good preseason showings and think we are incapable of allowing three TDs to a Peyton-less Colts.

As new as our defense is, that's not as bad as how inexperienced Collins is with his new offense. Kerry has 2 weeks to learn a new offense with receivers that he hasn't even played a preseason snap with.
Reggie Wayne said this when they signed KC: "“We don’t even know him, we ain’t vanilla, man, we ain’t no simple offense.”

They're extremely young on their OLine. Costanzo is a rookie, Reitz likewise will be a first time starter. Linkenbach has only 4 starts to his career, and Diem is moving inside to the RG. All this youth to protect a 38 year old QB who as stated, has no gametime experience running this system or playing with these players. A 38 year old who had effectively retired for a whole month and a half; who knows if he kept up his conditioning then, or even the whole length of the offseason if he'd been considering retirement. Nor will they have a run game, unless Addai goes down and Delone Carter posts up a career day.

I like the downplayed thoughts to mentally prepare for a let down...but it isnt going to happen.

Doesnt matter if we had a historically bad defense last year...we have 5 new starters on the defensive side of the ball. There are no doubts that this defense is much more aggressive than last year...Collins is slow in every aspect and he will be completely smothered on Sunday. He doesnt know the offense well enough to be able to adjust accordingly. This will be a tough outing for him.

And the Texans offense will put up around 30 points.

No way the Texans lose this game. I'll put 100 bucks into the tip jar if they do.

Who is playing nose tackle? Shaun Cody?

Addai is gonna run for 200 yards and the Colts will control the clock. Kubiak panicks and abandons the run.

    Colts 13, Texans 10

Kerry Collins in his stint with Tennessee averaged 26 attempts in the games he played with an output of ~160 yards, and this was on a team where defenses stack the box in fear of Chris Johnson.

He's no Curtis Painter for sure, and nobody is saying it's a shutout. But if you're going to think he will go from a run first team where he put up mediocre numbers and, in two weeks time, learn what should be a complicated passing-first (more like pass only) system with new receivers and a young line, without the benefit of game speed snaps, and make it a tough game, like I said you'll need to logically explain how that offense will score enough to keep up.

I think its being forgotten by some that the Colts would have to put up at least 25 points to make it close...most likely, they would need over 30 points to beat the Texans. I really have a hard time seeing where those 4 TDs are going to come from.

The Texans should have been 2-0 last season against a Peyton led Colts team and a historically bad defense. The colts biggest strength is now being taken away and the Texans biggest weakness has enjoyed a major overhaul.

    I aint scurred.

Nor am I. If it's going to be a tough game, there would have to be multiple scores from takeaways or Addai/Carter/Brown become the next earth wind & fire.
