I'd like to thank Kordel Stewart for the bulletin board material. R.I.P. Collins poor guy probably thinks David Carr is our quarterback. Did you hear him ask about our secondary?
If we were talking Schaub, or maybe even Johnson, than I'd agree - but's risk/benefits. The Ward/Tate combo, behind the line should be given the first crack at things. Dress Foster but hold him back as a precaution unless it seems like he'd be the difference in the game. Even if he's 90% in practice, I'd hold him out of the first quarter at the minimum. This is a perfect example of an injury that can get much much worse if you come back too early. The Colts offense is garbage without Manning. They'll be able to force feed Clark to get yards, but that's about the only thing they've got. Definitely don't underestimate them, especially a division rival. Teams usually rise up when a key guy goes down. But if we bring our B+ game, even minus Foster, this should be in hand. Don't lose Foster for 6-8 weeks just for overkill.
I think it has more to do with not demoting the reigning NFL rushing leader than playing a rookie. Foster was essentially in the same situation last year, but started over the veteran Steve Slaton.
So when you hear about teams using the "No one believes we can do it" or "It's us against the world" lines, who do you think they're referring to?
Slaton lost the job bc of his rushing inability/fumbling problems. That's why foster started. If Slaton continued playing at the pace of 1200 yes rushing and 8-10 TDs, Foster wouldn't have received the same chances. Kubiak, on offense, almost always gives the veteran the first crack at things then will play the rookie or young player once the veteran stumbles. And with Tate. I was referring to Ward being ahead of him on the depth chart.
I would agree with this more. I don't buy the Kubiak is beyond playing rookies (it's like JVG criticisms all over again). He's played multiple rookies, starting from day one and given young guys chances to prove themselves (Arian being one of them).
If he's out of options, he goes with the young players. If Slaton never encountered fumbling problems or never hurt his neck, Foster would still be sitting on the pine. He has a hesitation to starting rookies over veterans. Now, if the veteran is a scrub, then sure, thats a different story.
Omg, this is JVG argument all over again. You keep referring to slaton, which is funny because he started as a rookie for 15 games. Let's see some other rookie starters Demeco, Mario, Charles Spencer, Duane Brown, Cushing, kareem, O.D. just a few off the top of my head.
Kubiak just doesn't like altering the depth chart, period. Stubborn as a mule about keeping Jackson as the starter despite the horror show. Immediately put Wilson back in as a starter (after injury) despite Nolan thoroughly outplaying him. Stuck with Slaton/Brown all of 2009 despite their traumatic comedy of gaffes. Refused to touch any of his incompetent D-staff until McNair made the decision for him. Kubiak is a loyalist and a stay the course guy, to a fault.
I can agree with the depth chart angle more than age. Once someone has proven to be the starter...and is a battlefighter, he will give that guy a lot of opportunities to redeem himself in troubling times
I think you've been forgetting to read what I've stated. The veteran gets the first crack at things unless there is no veteran worth a crap in place...you bring up Slaton? Ahman Green was there, who bombed...and we had Ryan Moats. Green had the first crack at it. Who was the TE before Daniels? Putzier? Lol. I can keep listing for you. My whole point is that if there is any veteran that is serviceable, kubiak will go with them until they do something wrong. Tate is the much better runner compared to Ward...and Tate also did fine in the blocking department in the preseason. But, Ward is the stable veteran and the "safe" choice. Like I said, it wouldn't have mattered what Tate did in the preseason....Ward would've been ahead of him on the depth chart. Whether you want to believe that or not, I dont care. I also don't make these comments to diss kubiak...he runs it as he sees fit and with his method, the cream eventually rises to the top...so no need to run to his defense bc I'm not attacking him.
rumor- Peyton out for the season: http://img.ibtimes.com/www/articles/20110907/210113_peyton-manning-out-for-season.htm Jake Query, a radio show host for 1260 WNDE, reported on Twitter that two reputable sources told him that Manning underwent a third neck procedure on either Sunday or Monday and is subsequently out for the year. "A source I consider reliable told me he is out for the season," Query tweeted.
^ You never wish injury upon anyone but this season is setting up nicely for our beloved Texans. I smell a bye-week in the playoffs
Wow, this season is such a cakewalk for the Texans to the division title and playoffs. It only took 10 years, but damn, it's crazy.... But if Kubiak and Wade **** it up.....
You agree that Kubiak is stubborn with his depth charts. What do you think determines the depth chart? Has a rookie ever been ahead of a serviceable veteran with Kubiak? Its a serious question. Slaton got the nod bc Green failed...Owen Daniels only started after Putzier couldnt cut it as a starter...Duane Brown and Charles Spencer were drafted to start because there was nothing else in place at those positions. And if you go back and read what I initially stated, I said that this is Kubiak's stance on the offensive side of the ball, so bringing up defensive players doesnt really do anything. In any case, my initial questions in this post are posed as serious questions because I cant think of a situation where a rookie was ahead of an average veteran on the depth chart. But if you want to be an ass, be my guest. EDIT: And obviously first round picks are a different story...those players are drafted to immediately come in and make in impact at a position that is among the weakest for the team.
I was thinking about it, and who cares if Luck goes to the Colts. He inherits a weakass Colts team with no ground game and stale tampa 2 D. A figurehead offensive coordinator that probably relies 75% on Peyton's audibles at the line.
will the colts draft Luck if they had the number 1 pick, even with peyton making $18M per year? is that an insult to the incumbent hall of fame QB?
