Yep, I think you are right. Baylor is only going to slow this down, they can't stop it. At the end of the day, A&M will probably have to compensate them by guaranteeing annual, what would become, non-conference matchups amongst god knows what else.
In Baylor's case, that's more of a liability, rather than an asset. Small programs that win a lot are not looked upon favorably by the bigger ones when it comes time to start dolling out favors. Trust me, I speak from experience. Think 1970/80s Houston teams winning but not contributing back...
And i'm sure Baylor's President will probably drop that in thsi afternoon's teleconference... "Excuse me!! but did you not see the latest AP rankings?!" #missingthepoint
that isn't gonna get it. the claim is against SEC; not A&M. but i'm still interested to see how many schools release their claims.
I understand, but I imagine it will be A&M's job to shut them up. OU, OSU, Tech, UT - reportedly waived by chris level Mizzou is going to waive their right because they want to join the SEC. Bad business to take the new boss court right off the bat. OSU insider stated that OU is working on finding homes for all original Big 8 members (only Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State) A&M to teh SEC OU, OSU, Tech, UT to Pac-16 guess who is on the outside...Baylor who is currently holding up the entire party.
The only problem with this logic is when TAMU got wind of the LHN rather than threatening and telling them they can't do that. They moved on and are making moves to better themselves. They did not involve other schools, they did the best they could with what they had. Baylor on the other had having been given the news of TAMU leaving rather than courting the Big East and promoting their new basketball program that is so great or doing something proactive they are being petty and wasting everyone's time. I don't fault Baylor for looking out for themselves I fault them for looking out for themselves at the expense of other schools.
Unless of course Texas makes its own table, the Pac 10 ignores teh Techsters by their lonesome, as they naturally would; in which case the Red Raiders should really get acquainted with teh American southwest, D'Angelo Vickers style. I agree, pure default will allow the Red Raiders a more likely chance to latch onto the Texas gravy train and land somewhere good - but really Texas could swap out it's Lubbock-batross for a Cougar-batross and the results really wouldn't be too different (and I think actually Houston would be more attractive in a package deal to the Pac-ACC-whatever than Techsters for reasons stated).
forgive for me not buying the Chris Level report that: 1. came BEFORE the Big 12 met today; 2. contemporaneous to ESPN reports where TTU official said they knew they'd have to waive claims for A&M to be admitted without saying they'd done so; and 3. is not being reported by anyone anywhere else within 2.5 hours of the report.
Again, the SEC can still accept A&M no matter what Baylor does. It is the SEC that is causing the hold-up. They are choosing for this to happen.
The logic comes down to this to me: Baylor: "you can't go make yourself better because it makes us worse" That's like cricket mobile getting mad at AT&T for adding towers and rather than adding more towers they just sue them.
This is what Tech needs to be afraid of. Any deal that UT will seek will have many moving parts, any one of which could bump them out in favor of another Texas school. And I don't think UT has much of a preference either way, as long as they're fat and happy. Status quo benefits Tech, but all it takes is a single bug in somebody's ear, and bam... it's all up in the air.
what? how is A&M's looking out for itself not at the expense of other schools if the big xii implodes? holy crap, those are some maroon colored glasses. at this point, BU is saying they're unwilling to sign a release. the SEC is saying they MUST HAVE A RELEASE FROM EVERY TEAM IN THE BIG XII BEFORE ADMITTING A&M - does that strike anyone else as a bit funny? If I'm A&M, I'm wondering just how much the SEC wants me given that kind of condition. Yet to be seen which schools release these claims....waiting for a report after the meeting this afternoon.
