I've noticed the line moves a lot when the starting QB is out. I wonder if it's the sportsbooks screwing people who had bet on the Colts. No way I would take Texans -10. Not with that unproven defense under a new system.
In game 1 against Kerry Collins, you may want to reconsider. Unlike Manning (who knows how to move around the pocket), the guy is a statue. If the Texans pressure the QB like I expect them to, I think the Colts will go down easily. This will be the "feel good" game of the year. I still think Kubiak or some other issue will crop up during the season to put a damper on things.
Imagine if Peyton was out for the whole year and the Colts ended up getting the next Manning in Andrew Luck.
There would be no way that they would win less games than Carolina, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Seattle, etc. etc.
People really need to let this go. 1) The Colts wouldn't be nearly bad enough without Manning to land Luck 2) Peyton has 4 years left on his deal after this year 3) Peyton will be a good, if not great QB, until the day he retires 4) Luck would not want to sit for that long to play 5) And considering that, the Colts org would not crap all over the face of their franchise/the NFL
Unfortunately this has become a "trap"game. If the Texans relax 1 iota because Manning isn't playing, they'll be staring 0-1 right in the face.
If Peyton misses the next two years due to his neck surgery, then yeah, might happen. Seriously, this comparison is really off on a lot of levels.
They need to be in win now mode with Manning. They'd surely trade down. Also, Luck is ready to start, doesn't need Manning's mentoring.
If the Texans win the division with a mediocre 9 wins and then everything returns to normal next year (ie Manning is back, the Colts win 11+ and the Texans underachieve) then yeah - it'll feel hollow. But luck is a large part of this and the Texans have been on E in that department for roughly 10 years. I keep likening it to the '87 Oilers, who needed replacement players to steal two likely losses to help get that team over the hump. And then they followed it up with 6consecutive postseason appearences. If Manning missing significant time is the thing that helps the Texans finally get over the hump and they're able to stay over the hump, no one should begrudge them a thing, imo.
Season openers are never trap games. If we do lose, it will be because of turnovers and monumental breakdowns in the secondary. No team overlooks week 1, regardless of opponent.
The whole point of the Vegas line is to place it where 50% of the people (really, the amount of money placed down) will go one way or the other. That makeshift O Line isn't pounding the ball on anyone. Watt should have a field day.
WDNE-AM in Indianapolis is reporting that Colts QB Peyton Manning has undergone another surgical procedure on his neck and is in danger of missing the season.
I think it'd be absolutely hilarious if the Colts got Andrew Luck with this development. The Colts would be *REALLY* bad this year without Peyton.
The O line better make sure nobody gets to Collins cause otherwise the Colts are gonna start Painter and he's gonna lead them to 0 wins.
LOL, Indy has never been a "pound the ball" team. Their rushing game is set up by the pass. IIRC, the year they went to the Super Bowl, the Colts were the 2nd worst rushing team in the NFL. Seriously, if the Colts can successfully re-morph their offense with 10 days notice, they deserve to win. Talk about unproven.
Indy radio WNDE and the source behind the "Manning Done For Season" rumors in Jake Query now weighing in ....you can listen to audio of it.
