As an outlaw, I would still use guns to get rid of my rivals if they were made illegal. I'd also laugh at all the legitimate chumps waving around knives trying to scare me. In fact, I hope they make them illegal so I can make a killing on the underground market. No pun intended.

If guns were made illegal how would one go about killing someone?

I guess the obvious thing to make illegal is Red's knife. I've heard stories about that guy.

It would be easier and more effective to punish the thoughtcrimes that lead to murder.

Making it harder to acquire guns would drastically lower the amount of violent crimes in America.

    See: Japan, England, Australia

Guns are glorified in America. Guns = Freedom. It doesn't really make sense - some people need to get their heads out of their asses.

The murder rate rose when guns were effectively outlawed in England.

Guns don't kill people. People do.
I can shoot you, stab you, choke you, or run you over.
So let's ban guns, knives, physical contact, and any sort of vehicular transport.
    LOL.

Fear is what keeps people safe. Fear of each other.

9/11 was committed without a single gun.

    OKC...no guns.

The largest violent crimes are done with no guns.

As for your argument about law enforcement protecting you...HA HA HA!!! The only good calling the cops will do for you is to pick up your corpse and try to find the son of a b**** that shot you.

Why is alcohol even legal in America? Nothing good ever comes from it.

People like getting fu**ed up and shooting s***. It's every American's right.

Indeed. What the US need isn't less guns, but MORE guns.

Gun ownership should be not optional, but mandatory. There needs to be routine checks to make sure every house has at least one semi-automatic rifle to make it foolproof against any robbers. Every person walking on the street should be required to carry a handgun, not hidden so people who pass by know not to mess with you.

Then all our crimes would be solved.

I agree. If people like to their guns to shoot into their mouths, who are we to judge?

But I think it's illegal to ram down alcohol down other people's throats to force them to get drunk though. I think...

"Guns don't kill people." But they do make killing easier and a more readily available option for more people. It's a lot less effort to pull a trigger than it is to strangle or even stab somebody, and a lot less risky for the perpetrator, too.

Because its in the bill of rights. I don't own a gun and I am not very good at shooting, but the government should not be taking away peoples rights. Plus it makes America pretty much impossible ton invade, and keeps the government honest.

Not sure if serious? I used to believe guns kept the govt in check, but today, it's clear one side has a firepower advantage.

You might be labeled a traitor or a terrorist by the supposedly dishonest people in power; the mainstream media wouldn't help either since they'll be flashing your face nationwide in HD. Before you could organize and recruit more people to your anti-govt cause, the bureaucratic security apparatus would swoop down upon you faster than you could log off an anonymous forum. If you've seen the TV show 24, you'll understand.

Most Americans don't own firearms. Those that do, the majority don't have the powerful ordnance or the training to counter an assault. That only leaves a tiny minority holed up in places like the Ozarks with surplus anti-materiel rifles, explosives, artillery, etc.

Human decency can also keep people safe, but that's probably too much to ask for.

    All I'll say is this:

Rich people commit far fewer gun crimes than poor people.

Instead of treating the symptom, we should treat the disease.

Fix the financial imbalance in this country and you'd see a lot of these crimes disappear.

You've got to remember, in Switzerland, every male is conscripted into the army, so they are actually trained in how to responsibly use a gun, and gun safety is drilled into their heads every day of their military training.

IMO, the hypothetical situation that most posters are postulating about an America with guns banned seems.....wrong. I don't really see the rest of the world embroiled in murderous events every day, or see politicians clamouring for people to have guns for self-defense in gun-restricted countries. Unless of course, it is implied that Americans are just culturally inclined towards guns, just as certain Middle Eastern countries are.

"What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them." --Thomas Jefferson
