Seriously, what realistic reason does a person actually need a gun for?

Hunting with guns is a joke. So much so I can't even believe that consider calling it hunting?

Why do we allow such a deadly weapon to be so easily accessible.

Believe it or not there are actually countries that don't allow citizens to possess guns

Anytime I check the news nearly every crime related event is centered around the usage of a gun.

I'm sure someones going to say "IM AMERICAN I SHOULD HAVE MY RIGHTS TO A GUN" blah blah blah "IM TEXAN ITS WHAT WE DO GET DRUNK AND SHOOT ****"

Guns are in no way a positive to our society.

Sorry for offending most of this board but its events like this.............

    http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/09/06/nevada.shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Which make me wonder why we are dumb enough to allow deadly weapons to be tolerated.

    "I need a gun for self-defense"-lol.

    Incoming rageposts.

Because not enough people are bothered enough about the legality of guns to amend the Constitution or change the law.

Gun control used to be a much bigger issue back when there was more violent crime and fear for it. Not so much now.

The negative impact of guns on society is undeniable, but you are talking about a country that was built using the power of guns. The gun is ingrained into the Constitution. Guns or as much apart of American history and society as apple pie. Logic be damned.

Banning guns for citizens just means that outlaws and criminals (along with cops and soldiers) are the only ones that have guns. I don't know about you guys but guns are very, very powerful tools of persuasion and intimidation need they be shown. Weapons in general, not just guns...

I nearly got mugged three weeks ago, if it weren't for my knife I would have lost my money. Sad to say it, but guns are pretty much a necessity.

EDIT: Wow. That was completely incoherent. I am for WEAPONS not just guns. Replace everything in my post with Weapons where it says guns lol.

See I don't think guns are a necessity.

Crooks/Outlaws are always going to be an exception, that's pretty much why they are criminals. And we can only hope that our law enforcement can handle them.

I'm not certain on gun policies in Europe, but I do believe that guns are prohibited in a good majority of Europe. And that even police don't usually carry them around.

People b**** about rising crime and fatalities. The easiest and obvious choice is to just remove the weapon that is the cause of these problems.

I don't see why its that hard but this is America where we make the most simplest of solutions turn into something completely r****ded.

If we outlawed guns, the gun market would be an extent like the illegal drug market, there will always be ways to acquire them and in my opinion it would not be very hard to do so.

You regulate the guns, just like we should legalize drugs and regulate them.

but that is a totally different discussion...

I'll never own a gun due to a family incident and my general emotional state, but I just don't see any basic problem with other more level-headed people having them.

Guns are necessary in order to keep crime down. For example, look at Switzerland. There are absolutely no riots and robberies/murders are ridiculuously low and it's because almost of it's citizens are armed to the teeth. In contrast in cities like Chicago and New York with gun control laws, there are alot more violent crimes committed.

Because we as Americans want them to be. Beyond even amending the constitution, you really need to live in a leftist enclave like Chicago or DC to have support for even local bans. We, as a country, like guns.

I think it has more to do with citizens are more responsible than it has to do with gun ownership.

I don't understand why people need to keep comparing the US to other countries. What works well for us doesn't always work well for other countries and vice versa.
