I was at discovery green the other day and i went into the hilton just to walk around and see how high i can get to take a pic of the downtown scenery.

i was wondering, does anyone know if you can go inside skyscrapers (like the 1 or 2 that we have) or any buildings in downtown and kind of just look around in those buildings? Do they give you permission? or is it private property?

I think the Chase tower observation deck is the highest public deck in Houston. It's on the 60th floor.

EDIT: My personal opinion is that it is a nice view, but nothing spectacular. Unlike a NYC, Chicago or SF, Houston's downtown still isn't dense enough urban so that once you're up there you can take a great picture of the surrounding skyscrapers. By which I mean, Houston looks best as a skyline from afar a bit. Unobstructed views towards downtown from a few floors up in the galleria area are better shots.

The observation deck at the Chase Tower is free to the public, but you must check in before going up there and you cannot take photos of the elevator or the structures inside, only of the windows and out towards the Houston view.

Good to know. I've always been curious about that. Sounds like a cheap date to take my girl on. Heck, we might even take the metro.

Houston only has one or two skyscrapers? What?

Wells Fargo has an observation floor as well as Chase.

In the late 90's I went to the Transco/Williams tower observatory a few times. It closed after 9/11. Did it ever open back up?

Sky Lobby in the JPMorgan Chase tower. 60th floor and free.

Just pretend like you know what you belong there and they most likely won't say a word in the daytime. ;)
