It might be. The reasons why I dislike certain athletes are often different from the way the general populous feels. I don't really know why there are more negative feelings towards him, I just have mine.

I don't have the same strong dislike for Fish, or Isner, though I'm not really fans of theirs. I do like that young kid Sock, and Young when it comes to American men's tennis. I'm really starting to dislike Harrison.

Roger might have a chance to win another major.

No kidding. He looked incredible last night. I now it was only a win against Juan Monaco, but this beating rivaled the one Djokovic put on Carlos Berlocq earlier in the tournament and Monaco is a better player than Berlocq.

He speaks the truth in that interview.

In Men's Tennis, I always root American first. I'll be rooting for Young, Isner, and Roddick. I think Isner has the best chance of the remaining Americans.

Anybody outside the top 3 winning would be shocking.

    Agreed, agreed and agreed.

Roddick spoke out of frustrations that many tennis players have about tennis analysts. The way he went about saying them was probably wrong, but I guarantee you that there were hundreds of current and former tennis players sitting at home nodding their heads in agreement.

I think Isner is playing great right now and has a great shot to move on. Gilles Simon, his R16 opponent, is a solid player, but I'm not sure he's as good as his #12 ranking would lead you to believe. If he is winning points off of his serve, he's tough to beat.

This looks like basically a 3 horse race. All of the top 3 have looked great, outside of Nadal's physical ailments. Not only was there the collapse in the presser, but he has still been dealing with various foot and ankle tweaks since Wimbledon. You can't count Murray out either, but until he wins a title, it's hard to take him seriously as a contender.

I always get kinda said at this point of the US Open every year. There is still a lot of great tennis left this week, but after this, you really have to wait until the Aussie Open in January to get top-flight tennis back. The World Tour Championships at the end of the year are a fun event, but those are only three set matches and the media coverage is spotty, so it's tough to get into them.

I went out to dinner and drinks with some people and Roddick, back when he was dating Mandy Moore...he was an ass and Ive always had a negative opinion of him since. I know he's matured since then, but I cant shake off that initial impression.

Having said that, I'll be rooting for the US men...it would be nice if one of them could pull off being the champ.

I'm not saying it wasn't, or that he isn't, just that he is right. Certainly isn't nice to come out an insult another person's profession.

I think he was the next great American. People fail to realize that the guy has made it to what, 5 Grand Slam Finals? He just ended up playing in an Era where 2 of the greatest to ever pick up a raquet(and now 3 with Djokavic's run this year) played at the same time. He definitely fought and held his own being the longest in the top 10 along with federer before dropping out this year. In the end of the day, most of these guys have to be on their guard bc of the scrutiny he gets, sure he could handle it better, but I am not going to judge on them personally since so much we don't know. What I do like is his resilience, work ethic, and that he is on record saying he has made a career of basically working/practicing harder since he is not as talented as the other players. I'd love and respect any kid with that mentality, work ethic, and perseverance so I think he is great for American Tennis

Please, Roddick was the best American player in one of the weakest eras of Tennis ever. He had that window between Agassi and Nadal where Federer was the only great tennis player, but he couldn't take advantage. His US Open win was thanks to him playing the best Tennis of his career, and getting a rather easy path to the final. Roddick was/is a very good tennis player, and has enjoyed a career that is something to be very proud of, but he isn't one of the great American players.

You talk as if other players didn't have great competition. Agassi/Sampras, Courier/Becker/Edberg/Agassi/Sampras, Becker/McEnroe/Borg/Connors/Lendl, and today we have Federer/Nadal/Djokovic.

Great American male tennis players (Open Era): Sampras, Agassi, Connors, McEnroe.
    Nearly great: Courier, Ashe
Very good: Roddick, Chang, Stan Smith

I think it's been a pretty entertaining US Open so far...even for USA *gasp*. Fish (tough loss), Roddick, Isner, Young, Serena, Sloane Stephens...good stuff.

On the men's side, it's hard for me to see Roddick beating Ferrer. He's played well but had a pretty weak draw. Even if he does win, he'd most likely face Nadal. I like Roddick, but he'd need a miracle against Nadal if he gets there.

There's also a great rematch with Fed vs Tsonga. Tsonga played incredible against Federer at Wimbledon. If Federer wins, that would bring a semi-final match with Djokovic. Really, Federer is the only one to beat Djokovic this year...

Murray gets a whole lot of hype, but he has yet to win a Slam. I really think Djokovic, Nadal, and even Federer are on another level.

The women's draw is a mess with the biggest match being between Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki. IMO the winner of this match wins the Open. If there's anyone left able to beat Serena, it's Caroline...who runs down every ball and has extreme fitness.

Whole day cancelled, darned NY weather.
    Can't wait for Federer-Tsonga, Ferrer-Roddick, Djokovic-Tipsarevic, Wozniacki-Petkovic.
Let's pray it doesn't rain tomorrow.

Dude, Mandy Moore? Please tell me she was at the dinner and drinks you had with Roddick and others? Out of her contemporaties- Britney, Christina, Jessica Simpson, I think she'd be the marry in the shag, marry, throw off a cliff.

Based purely on memory, I feel like Roddick's best was on par with Courier's best, and Chang was below them. So I would put Roddick in group 2 and not 3. But agree with your general premise
