Mandatory evacuations for a neighborhood about 1 mile from me. Wish me luck!

I'm just a little south of you near 1431 and 183. My sister-in-law's grandmother lost their house yesterday in Spicewood. This is some crazy stuff.

Man I wish Lee would have hit us instead of heading east. :(

Can't imagine what Bastrop looks like with all their pine trees going off (was described to me as a roman candle, cedar trees are kind of like that too), just spent 5 hours on a Cat cutting firebreaks around a friend's place near Spicewood/Pace Bend/Paleface. Houses, barns, businesses burned today; everything was under control there last night, but everyone knew it would all rekindle when the wind kicked back up around 9ish. Had another fire that jumped the Colorado this morning about 2 miles from my house, across from 1431 around smithwick. If there weren't helicopters....

Some of the guys took camera pics, will post when I can. Hell of a labor day.

Apparently 1/2 of Bastrop State Park is gone. That's a huge loss as it's a great place. Love taking my family there to camp and have reservations for next spring.

Those of you in the line, stay safe. My wife is packing bags and necessities right now just in case. Round Rock isn't far from any of this and we want to be ready.

Clearly the fires are horrendous.... But I had that view multiple times today and I think there's definitely been some post capture processing going on. Looked bad enouh to the naked eye though.

My wife's uncle just lost his house in Spicewood. This is just terrible. 40 homes in Steiner Ranch and the fire still isn't contained.

My neighborhood (Pflugerville area) was evacuated. I was out of town at the time, but came back just as they got the fire contained. It was a pretty damn close call:

This house is at the end of our street. As you can see, the fire stopped about 5 feet short of it. You can even see that their privacy fence got singed. Yikes.

Winds have pretty much died off. Hopefully, the fire departments can get a handle on these now...

I dreaded something like this for a couple of months, and we kept staying lucky. Dammit, the luck ran out. This is truly an epic disaster for Central Texas. I can't imagine what's happening to Bastrop State Park and the area (actually, can imagine it too well). As has been said by others, it's one of my favorite places to get out in the pines and spend a quiet day just enjoying nature. And all the homes lost! Went to Black's in Lockhart for BBQ yesterday and we kept staring at the huge plumes of smoke coming from around Bastrop. Simply stunning.

    Damn.

How's it going up there? My uncle lives in Plantersville, just as you enter the town headed north from Todd Mission.

This is sad, hopefully with the winds down they can stop these fires. We need rain in the worst possible way.
