I got a 14 team auction league coming up. I don't play many auction leagues, but this year, our money league is trying something new. Tips or strategies?

    PPR by the way

can we ask for just general fantasy tips here? i'm doing a standard yahoo league, with a live draft this week. my first year doing a fantasy team. wont know draft position until 30 min before. but what do you veterans recommend? go RB, RB, QB, WR to start? think i read RB tend to be more valuable in standard leagues?

do know the league is going to prob have 8 teams. if that makes any difference

This is a good tool for first timers

    http://fantasyfootballcalculator.com/

It is basically a simulation of a fantasy draft, you can select your number of teams and whatever draft slot you want and do an actual draft and then see how your team looks.

If you're doing a standard league with QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/WR then I'd think about getting a stud WR or QB before going RB/RB but it really all depends on your draft position and who is available when you're up.

Nice move. You've got depth overall at every position and if the Cards beat up on a few weak conference air defenses you can double up with Kolb and Fitz. Plus Wallace and Big Ben aren't a bad combo to lean on all season either. Especially against the likes of the Bengals and Browns young defences.

If you're in a PPR league there's a good chance you'd dominate, wish some of the teams in my league weren't such pusses, no one is willing to make a pre-season deal so far. Buggers!

I just pulled off this trade in my league.

    Outgoing:

    Ryan Mathews
    Steve Smith (Car)
    Matt Cassel
    Steve Breaston

    Incoming:

    Stevie Johnson
    Ryan Grant
    Donovan McNabb
    Robert Meachem

My roster is now as follows

    QB Matt Ryan
    WR Larry Fitzgerald
    WR Mike Williams (TB)
    WR Kenny Britt
    RB Chris Johnson
    RB Peyton Hillis
    TE Dustin Keller
    W/TE Stevie Johnson
    K Henery
    Def NO

Bench: Sam Bradford, McNabb, Ryan Grant, Ben Tate, Robert Meachem, Cleveland D.

    12 team yahoo league.

I feel like I pulled off a great trade.

Someone wants to trade me Green Bay DEF and LeSean McCoy for my Philadelphia DEF and Cedric Benson or Tim Hightower.

Should I trade Benson or Hightower? I have Forte as my RB1 in a PPR league. 1 point per reception. Benson or Hightower is currently my RB2

    Lee Evans vs Pit
    Jacoby Ford @ Den
Lance Moore @ GB (if healthy)

Need one for a flex spot. Also considering picking up James Jones or Antonio Brown for one of them (prob Ford), but undecided.

Do that trade and don't look back. Holy cow. McCoy is a first round pick in PPR.

    FYI a little update.

    My proposed trade got accepted.

    Give:
    QB Matt Ryan
    RB Brandon Jacobs
    W/T Jermichael Finley

    Get:
    QB Eli Manning
    RB Matt Forte
    W/T Mario Manningham

So I just got a 2nd RB and a 3rd WR by giving up Matt Ryan and now my season hinges on Ben Roethlisburger.

I'm nervous, but I think I did the right thing.

Which 3 running backs should I start:

    Ray Rice vs. Pittsburgh

    LaGarrett Blount vs. Detroit

    Fred Jackson vs. Kansas City

    Ahmad Bradshaw vs.Washington

    Knowshon Moreno vs. Oakland

Right now I have Blount, Bradshaw and Moreno as my starters. I want to play Rice but I just don't like him against the Steelers defense. He's only rushed for 100 yards once against them and has never scored a touchdown. Sure he is the main back now but I still don't like the match up. What do you think?

You don't sit a top 5 pick unless he is hurt. I'd go Rice/Bradshaw/Moreno

I always felt you gotta start your big dogs because the underlings are too unpredictable. I'd go Rice, Blount, and Moreno. But I wouldn't get too attached to Moreno. Sure, Fox is a run first guy, but not convinced that KM can get it done.(i have McGahee in a couple leagues heh) Having Bradshaw back there for insurance is pretty good.

A good trade assuming Bradshaw stays healthy and productive. I'd conisder Finley and Forte the only irreplaceable players in that trade, and Forte is more valuable than Finley.

TE is not a required position in our league, so I feel I'm better off with a proven commodity like Manningham.

I'm not very high on Jacobs, while I know Martz will use Forte a lot in the passing game.

My 3rd WR choices are now Manningham, Ochocinco, and Mike Thomas.

Plus my RB stable is now Charles, Hillis, and Forte.

I love having options/depth. I'm just scared poopless that Big Ben is gonna go a-rapin' sometime soon.

No TE being required makes a good trade a great one.

I have BenJarvus Green-Ellis as my flex with Michael Bush on the bench (Adrian Peterson and Steven Jackson are my RB1&2).

Can't figure if Green-Ellis is going to be able to repeat and if Bush is going to get the carries. Best available is Tashard Choice.

Go with lee Evans. He has chemistry with flacco. Flacco can actually throw the deep ball, so Evans will break out this year.

So should I include Benson or Hightower in the trade?

Tough one, but I would part with either for Mccoy. Hightower probably has more fantasy potential this year, though Benson might get more touches ... but I lean toward Hightower.

I wouldn't be fixed on position - in the end, it's all about points. Of late, QBs have flat out dominated the league.

    http://walterfootball.com/fantasy2011top150.php

Notice the ranking in tiers: I'm of the opinion that you're always better grabbing a stud than taking the next best RB/WR (whichever position you're "supposed" to take). If you don't have the top pick in each round, you'll just be playing catch up all draft. FF is won by studs, pure and simple.

Go for surefire studs early - be wary of injury prone or fluke types.
Dig for sleepers late - no sense in taking a guy you know will be a 5 points a week backup.

    Find those studs.

In an 8 team league - the good news is there are 8 good QBs around for the taking. If you miss out on Rodgers/Vick/Brady early, hang back and snag Brees/Rivers...or just forget about it til mid-draft and take Schaub or Freeman (before guys start snagging backups).

Studs, studs, studs, studs. Get ahead of your draft - start a run on a position, don't follow the end of one.
