Me too. All the guy did in college was make plays. He had a rough preseason and he didn't see a lot of time on the field in the training camp practices I saw. But still, I would think you would find a way to keep a guy like him on the roster. Then again, if it came down to Keo or Braman, I think they made the right choice.
Surprising that they kept Slaton over Ogbonnaya -- I wonder if another team will grab him on waivers.
I heard someone talking about the mid round picks a couple of weeks ago. I can't remember if it was fourth or fifth they were talking about but they said 12% ever start a game. So 12% or less. Edit: 12% is fourth rounders, because it was the Atlanta GM talking about the Browns trade, so probably quite a bit less than that.
it's all about the numbers game. Keo is a project and based on his preseason performance, I would seriously doubt any other team will pick him up. Dollars to donuts....he will stay in houston and get another chance next year. Surprised they only have 8 OL...i thought teams typically went with 9, but they could be looking to pick up another.
It would be interesting to see how many 5th rounders don't make the 53 man roster, but still stay with the team on the practice squad.
Not sure, I found an article that said the success rate of 4th rounders was 44%. Success was defined as playing at least 4 years and being a starter or significant contributor as a backup at some point. It's not like I necessarily expected to become a significant contributor or anything, but I I find it odd that they cut a 5th rounder just months after drafting him. I'd think that the vast majority of 5th rounders make the team the year they're drafted.
I thought I heard that they were really just holding on to Slaton so that they could try to trade him somewhere (yeah, right) and that they'd cut him if they couldn't find a trade partner. There's little point in him being here. He's the 4th RB. I guess you could speculate that he's here to be the 3rd RB in case Foster isn't ready to go to start the season, but it's a gamble to have your "emergency" back be a guy who couldn't even get on the field during the preseason. And if he and Foster and Ward were all completely healthy, it makes little sense to carry 4 healthy RB's.
Keo will surely be on practice squad, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the 7th rounder go there too.
Keo is from the Washington area, wouldn't surprise me if his agent tries to get him to the Seahawks, moreso since he just had a baby. I heard from the radio that Kubiak is pretty loyal to players that take their rehab seriously from injuries, he took a flyer on Foster as an undrafted rookie and let him rehab, so he's giving Slaton all the chances to come back also.
I'm not. Ogbannaya was a fine story and all but he showed almost nothing on the field that would make me ever want him in a game. I think slaton is a damn fine #4 back
I just did a quick google of some of the fifth rounders. Keo is definitely not the only one cut thus far. Josh Thomas, taken right before Keo was waved by the Cowgirls, and Ahmad Black, another safety taken in the round after Keo has been waved. I guess there is still some time before the final cuts are mandated, but it looks like more players are cut, on the bubble to be cut, or on injured reserve from the fifth round than are considered locks to make their respective team, at least from my quickie unscientific goggling.
I don't think people are complaining so much as a little surprised. 5th rounders usually have enough talent to make a 53-man roster. So cutting him shows more that the the Texans scouts misread him. Personally, I honestly don't care about individual players so much as their draft. If the Texans get 3-4 contributors, with at least one impact player, I'd be happy with the draft.
In my mind it was Keo or Barber. Not b****ing, just expressing surprise as they seemed high on Keo and I wasn't expecting Barber to stick around.
again, just because Keo didn't make the 53 roster doesnt mean he won't be a Texan sooner or later. I seriously doubt any team is willing to put him on their 53 man roster at this point.
If he comes back from injury, I'll bet Donnie Avery goes to Arizona. Makes way too much sense. Great compliment to Fitz, and he played with Kolb at UH. Go Cougs!
