Wow, but I would have though Ginobili was on top.

Ginobili has skipped a lot of tournaments in recent years. This may be the first time he's played for Argentina since the Beijing Olympics.

Not a bad idea. We could go either way with Scola.

To who though? He's older, so most of the offers you'd get would be expiring contract type of stuff.

The best we can do is hope they put on a hard cap, and then you would see teams try to make 'old vet for younger but slightly worse talent' types of trades. I mean, imagine trading Scola to the nuggets for like Wilson Chandler or something like that. The way the cap works right now you would never score a deal like that.

The problem with selling high on Scola is that most teams that could use him, don't have young talent that they can trade or low draft picks.

Maaan I just came in to start this exact thread :)
As someone already said, Ginóbili has skipped a couple of tournaments lately. Besides, when the full team is playing the whole team tends to share the scoring load, whereas Scola and Delfino were the definite go-to guys in the past couple of tournaments Argentina has played.
Anyways, kudos to Scola on making history yet again!

Really, I hope, hope McHale goes around to teaching Scola how to box out and rebound because that's all we really need for him to be the guy who can hold the post.

That ship sailed quite awhile ago. In this tournament Scola is a shadow of his former self. He is clearly on the decline already.

I disagree, Scola's value is still high. He's not 37 you say that like he's a year away from retiring. I'm telling you a lot of contending teams in the NBA would LOVE to have this guy on their team. Not only contending teams, but teams that are close to contending

Don't think Scola's on the decline, it's just that he's not getting any better at his age but he's still going to be good for near 20ppg and 10rpg in the NBA. That is valued no matter how old you are. Much less a 31 year old that can probably go for 5 more years.

Yeah, that's why he's Argentina's leading scorer in the tournament. You are seriously the biggest troll ever. Even last summer you were over on Spurstalk going off about how “stupid Rockets homers” were raving about Scola’s “mediocre performances” in the FIBA World Championship when he was indeed playing out of his freaking mind.

Have you ever said anything good about a Rockets player? Oh yes, you do, when they suck and they’re traded, like V-Span or Aaron Brooks.

    http://spurstalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5003834&postcount=117

Some great words you’ve got there for us and our team…We get that you hate us because your boy V-Span was a huge failure but please get a life, you sorry freakin loser.

    Back on topic: Scola rocks.

    1. Scola is clearly on the decline. So what if he leads Argentina in scoring? You obviously did not watch any games and just comment like an expert out of your own imagination.

Nearly the whole team of Argentina is old, tired, washed up, and they are on fumes. Except just Delfino and JP Gutierrez, they look completely past it. They would have absolutely zero chance at winning a bronze medal at the Olympics with how they are playing.

Scola is literally half the player he was just a year ago right now.

If he is not declining, then he is for certain, 100% not healthy and has a bad knee.

    2. Dragic, the future Rockets star, is struggling mightily in EuroBasket. In fact, he is playing absolutely awful. I mean just terrible.

Look at how brilliantly Dragic is playing in EuroBasket so far:

    http://www.eurobasket2011.com/en/ci...le2.season_2011.roundID_7526.teamID_2154.html

    what world beater.

    32.0 Field Goal %
    9.1 3 Point Field Goal %

    6.7 Points Per Game
    3.7 Rebounds Per Game
    3.7 Assists Per Game

    1.0 Steals Per Game
    2.0 Turnovers Per Game

The guy is literally lighting EuroBasket on fire.

Who the hell said Dragic is a star? There you go with your made up "Rockets homers" bull****. And I don’t even give a **** how he’s playing in Eurobasket; he’s a good rotation player for the Rockets and that’s all that matters.

Does Manu suck now too because he’s scoring even less than “on the decline Scola?”

Your trolling here is not appreciated by anyone. You never offer anything positive, just crap about how stupid Rockets homers are, how our drunk r****ded GM sucks, and how all our players compare in comparison to your beloved Greek T-Mac. Why the **** do you hang out here if you think all these disgusted thoughts about us? Just talk crap about us and our team elsewhere and leave us alone.

The guy is just playing his first few games coming back from surgery, so if you don't like what you see, don't you think you should at least give him the benefit of the doubt?
And Gutiérrez, seriously?? Of all the players in the team you picked him? Either you're talking about players who are still peaking (and then of course Gutiérrez's peak is far lower than Scola's) or you're seriously writing here just for kicks

How do you guys feel about Tiago Splitter?

IF we are actually in rebuilding mode we COULD send Scola and Budinger to the Spurs for both Kawhi Leonard, Tiago Splitter and Antonio McDyess whom we can just buy out.

Then they can send Richard Jefferson to Sacramento (who are DYING for a real SF) and send SA John Salmons. This would trade players of similar output while filling a position of need and freeing up the SG position for Tyreke.

This would give us a possible future C and a young SF that COULD pan out quite nicely or be used in a future trade. This also sheds TONS of salary in the long run. THEN we can make a legit run at Dwight in free agency. We might even be able to squeeze a future 1st from SA.

    Lowry/Dragic/Flynn
    Martin/Lee
    Morris/Leonard/Williams/Parsons
    Patterson/Hayes/Motiejunas
    Splitter/McDyess/Hill/Thabeet

While not a very good looking team, there is TONS of potential there. Any one of Morris, Patterson, Splitter, Leonard, Williams, Motiejunas, or hell even Flynn could be a great find.

Also, in the above scenario San Antonio, while giving up plenty of their future, would be STUPID not to make this trade.

    They could roll out with

    Parker
    Ginobili
    Budinger
    Scola
    Duncan

with Salmons, Blair, and Bonner off the Bench. Thats a pretty SOLID 8 man rotation.

Of course, I realize they would look better on paper if they simply kept Jefferson, but I'm convinced they can't win a title with him on the team, IMO.

JP Gutierrez is not past his prime. I never said anything about him being as good as Scola. Argentina is nothing but old washed up players, except maybe Delfino.

    Prigioni - washed up
    Sanchez - washed up
Manu - looks nearly washed up
Quinteros - not quite washed up, but getting there
Delfinio - not washed up yet
Jasen - not quite washed up, but heading there
    Nocioni - washed up
Kammerichs - not washed up yet, but getting there
Scola - heading towards being washed up, or if not he still had knee issues
    Oberto - washed up

I don't where Leo Gutierrez is. Maybe he got injured. But that group is in a major decline.

There offense consists of, dribble, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, shoot 3. Repeat 5 times. Then dribble, pass, pass, pass, cut, backdoor. Over and over.

They are playing in slow motion in pretty much every game so far. Maybe they are just coasting. Maybe they will pick it up at the elimination rounds. But right now it just looks like a bunch of old slow guys.
