You keep saying "young" like that's some sort of excuse. It's not. If they were 28, there would be no question of prison time. These men knew the law. They knew the consequences of their actions. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing. It wasn't an "accident". They didn't "accidentally" drive 93 down Gessner. It was vehicular homicide. Perhaps they should have considered "what life is worth" before they took the lives of everyone on that street that night into their irresponsible, morally questionable hands. Too late now. You can call it primitive all you want: at least with these two locked up, we would be guaranteed two less killers on the street.

After seeing they only received a slap on the wrist I could not help but compare it to the 10 years that 17 year old received in Georgia for a bj. Our country has issues.

I'm not a guy who tends to argue from emotion and I am not going to here but these guys definitely deserved jail time.

Unless you know these guys you seem to be making an awful lot of presumptions here. Your argument is basically these are good boys who made a bad mistake and they feel really bad about it. Maybe they are maybe not but the facts are these are young adults not children and as young adults they are expected to have some sense of responsibility. At 18 you can vote, you can join the military and enter into binding contracts. While we all might've done stuff at 18 that we regret I am pretty sure that most 18 year olds know that street racing down a busy street is a bad idea.

With a case like this we have to decide are these people big children or are they young adults?

In our society 18 is considered an adult and as such they need to be held accountable for their actions.

I agree that vengeance shouldn't be the basis for the justice system but there are rational reasons for them serving jail time. For one there is a deterrent value to giving them prison time. Even if they are young adults who made a terrible mistake they are the example to other young adults regarding the consequences of such actions. The second is public safety. While they are on probation they could still drive and even race. While this would mean if they get caught they get sent to jail clearly they haven't shown the willingness to think through those consequences before. At the same time the judge said they didn't show any remorse for these actions. if that is the case then in the interest of public safety they should do some time in jail at least to make sure they fully understand the consequences and to get them off the streets for awhile.

I don't think they should be put in jail for life but at least a year of jail time should be called for for such blatantly reckless behavior that ended up costing three lives.

Even if they were given tough sentences it is not like its going to reduce behavior like this. USA has the death penalty yet we are leaders in homicide.

Three lives are ruined. You can ruin 2 more add more whose lives will be ruined. So add two more unemployed to our growing welfare role or just do what you can.

It is not fair, but most likely these guys aren't likely to get in trouble again and if they do throw the book at them.

It's a flawed argument. How do you know our homicide rate doesn't double if we don't have the death penalty?
I am not into wanting to ruin 2 more lives. I want to keep them and others from ruinning more lives.
They might and they might not but I am sure other idiots will not think twice about driving 90 miles in a city street in the future.

Screw that. We don't need them in our military. The military is about rules and these buttholes have no sense of it. They are already a waste of our resources and you want them in the service?

JAIL TIME !!! They are adults.

If I was close family of the victims, I'd think a little street justice would be in order. Especially if these a-holes weren't showing remorse in court.

Immature people like those two racers really know how to piss me off quickly. The whole trial debacle with lawyers and psychiatrists doesn't help either.

Microcosm of society at work here.

I don't think that really matters; they deserve whatever they get.
