Schaub can keep the defense off the field a lil more in those clutch situations too.... Turnovers and 3-n-outs are essential to avoid late game defensive meltdowns... I dont have the stats but Im sure my man DM will assist with that....
Let's take a look at the losses from last season. Spoiler Week 3 vs Dallas, 27-13. Roy Williams looked like Jerry Rice out there vs Kareem Jackson, pulling in 5 catches for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kareem himself gave up 14 points, that's more than the Texans scored. Not much Schaub can do about that. The defense got picked apart by Tony Romo, and it was the beginning of a long season for Texans fans. Week 5 vs New York Giants, 34-10. The Giants defense held Arian Foster to 25 yards on 11 attempts, but I'm sure Matt will still get the blame for going 16/34 and having 1 interception. When you give up 34 points, you're gonna lose more often than not. Week 8 at Colts, 17-30. Gary decided not to run the ball against the Colts' horrible run defense. Matt Schaub had a decent game, but Peyton was Peyton. Yes, Matt could've performed better, but the defense had another 30 point performance. Week 9 vs Chargers, 29-23. Defense blew a 4th quarter lead, and Rivers 17/12 for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns. Damn that Matt Schaub for not scoring in the 4th quarter and letting Rivers manhandle him like that. Week 10 at Jaguars. Hail Mary full of grace. Not gonna go into that. Matt was 22/32 for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns though. How mediocre of him. Week 11 at New York Jets, 27-30. Matt Schaub showed how un-clutch he truly is by leading his team to 20 points in the 4th quarter, aka "clutch situation." Then the defense blew it again, as expected. 30 points again. We win in week 12 against the t***, and the their 6th round rookie QB. Yay-Yay *Ice Cube tone* Week 13 at Eagles, 24-34. Defense blows 4th quarter lead, Schaub 22/36 337 yards, 2 Touchdowns and a pick. Week 14 vs Ravens, 34-28 OT. 15 points in the 4th including a game tying touchdown and 2 pt conversion with 29 seconds left. Yes, pick 6, but 62 pass attempts! It was bound to catch up to him. Week 15 at t***, 17-31. The defense allowed 21 points IN THE 1ST QUARTER!!! Not much Matt could've done about that either. Week 16 at Broncos, 23-24. Tim Tebow channels his inner-Jesus, aka the Texans blew a double digit 4th quarter lead.
I don't think anyone here is blaming Schaub for losses last year. No need to defend your position by chasing a debate no one's arguing.
Good call. But I'm just trying to point out, what more can he do? Not everyone is Peyton Manning, that's why he's Peyton Manning.
I hear you. I think the argument is getting polarized with each side re-interpreting the extremes of the other. Anyone can chime in to correct me if I'm wrong but I believe.... No one* thinks Schaub is holding us back Everyone* considers Schaub a top 10 QB today No one considers Schaub a top 3 QB today Everyone* agrees that the losses last year were 99% on the defense and the ones from the year before were 75% on running back gaffes. On the "things that bug me list", Schaub is probably on the bottom half of everyone's list*. * Well, casually watching, irrationally hating folks like DD aside.
Patriots claimed Antwaun Molden off waivers. ESPN Link The Patriots claimed cornerback Antwaun Molden on waivers from the Houston Texans today, according to a league source. The 26-year-old Molden entered the NFL in 2008 as a third-round pick out of Eastern Kentucky. He has not started a game over the last three seasons, appearing in 32 contests. This marks the second straight year the Patriots have claimed a player from the Texans. Last year, the team claimed offensive tackle Steve Maneri after the Texans waived him. The Patriots will have to make a corresponding roster move to make room for Molden (6-1, 200), who joins a cornerback group headlined by Devin McCourty and Leigh Bodden, with Kyle Arrington, Darius Butler and Ras-I Dowling also on the depth chart. Bodden has been sidelined with an undisclosed injury since the team's second preseason game against the Buccaneers.
Knowing what you know now, are you still nervous at the thought of Schaub with the ball in the 4th quarter trying to win the game?
Ok I feel you....Tebow- inner Jesus...lmao...Maybe its because of those things that Schaub isnt considered clutch...But seems when "I" watch the games, theres always an mistake done by him that attributes to "non-clutchiness" in the "clutcheous" of situations....
Much rather see the offense on the field trying to win the game than the defense trying to protect a lead (at least, that's what I preferred last year). It was just such a maddening season with so many gut-wrenching finishes. I can attribute almost equal blame to both sides of the ball. Offense-induced punch to the junk: San Diego (AJ can't make a catch and the ball ricochets off his knee to a Charger to end the game as we're driving for the winning score), Baltimore (Schaub throws a pick-six in OT), and Denver (Schaub has Daniels on a seam route but the pass deflects off a blitzing DBs helmet resulting in an INT) Defense-induced meltdowns: Jacksonville, NY Jets, Philadelphia, Tennessee I'm hoping we've exhausted enough Karma over the past decade that the team is primed to capitalize on the talent they've assembled.
sorry - lemme clarify - defense put the offense in terrible positions last year by making them score almost 30 ppg to have a chance to win. That being said, even though they were carrying almost the full brunt of the load, there were games where the Offense could've pulled it out with some more good fortune on the final drive(s). Hoping for a much more balanced team this year where the Defense can hold their own and maybe even tilt field position to put the Offense in better position to score more easily.
I wonder if the offensive huddle in those Jacksonville and other defensive meltdown games consist of the words "Lets not score too fast"...If so thats a damn shame....Imagine tryin to milk the clock and you're behind just to keep the defense off the field....
There was also the much debated issue of the offense putting up stinkers for halves at a time, scoring 7 or less points for an entire half and not really moving the ball. This was a vicious cycle with a bad defense because the defense couldn't get off the field and the team just had no momentum. We easily would have won at least a couple of more games with an offense that could move the ball for four quarters.
The only things that worries me about Schaub isn't his health, or lack of mobility. It's him underthrowing deep balls. At first I wondered if it were on purpose so the secondary would let Andre run past them thinking the Schaub couldn't throw it far enough... then it happened a few more times.
