Nothing like that, though working in IT the whole backup thing is a tough issue. Im just saying 'Stability' really has nothing to do with it, as there are millions of devices that turn off and on every day with no problem something is just obviously wrong with your hardware. In any case, like I said hopefully they can find a way to help you pull the data off. Good luck man.
I assume you're on a winPC? Have you looked under "My Computer> Apple iPhone" after connecting the device? If not, try that. And listen to Xerobull. Folks, back up your data. Not because phones or storage devices are designed "piss poor," not because they aren't built to take a "simple power off and on" cycle, but because the data matters to you and $#@! happens.
My gripe with iphones is they trick you into updating your phone only to make the phone almost unusable. My wife's iphone 3G sucked donkey balls after an update and there was nothing we could do to get it back to its old self. So now, she has an HTC and will never go back.
reminding you that there is a new update every time you sync and asking if you want to upgrade everyday.
Iphones are pretty nice, but my problem with them is that they require you to use that piece of crap itunes software to do anything. Hate Itunes! Plus it really sucks that the iphone doesn't have an additional SD Card. That way you could just have backed up all your data on to the SD card plus internal memory with a simple App that doesn't even require you to connect to a computer. Comes in handy for crap like this. Anyways, good luck man. Hopefully you can restore everything. The genius bar is great at the Apple store and I'm sure they will be able to help you out.
I'm on Windows Vista. In its current state, you cannot see the Apple iPhone. I tried that. All you see is it in iTunes alerting you to restore. I've pretty much given up at this point. I can't even talk to someone at the Apple Store and I was told you need an appointment. I was caller #9 or something. lol Since it doesn't seem there is a way to see what photos and videos I have (or don't have) unless the phone is connected and working, I will blindly go into a restore I guess and see what I get back. My understanding is iTunes backed up during my last sync. I just don't know when that was. I hate iTunes as well.
iTunes blows, but now upgrades will be handled OTA and the cloud services should ensure users won't have to use iTunes to backup if they don't want to. Music and videos can be loaded by 3rd party software.
So telling you there is an update and then you choosing to install it is a trick? With the upcoming update you should be able to backup most things to their cloud. With photos there is an option to send all of your photos to the cloud as you take them. You'll also be able to backup the device over WiFi, but you would still have to have iTunes running on the network for it to work.
Yes sir, that is correct. I got my OTA update yesterday Anyways, you could probably go into DFU mode, and restore from a previous backup if you made one. If not, sorry. You should always back up your data. If it bothers you alot, you could get an Android with removable external storage. It's as easy as uploading to Dropbox, or using iCloud if you're a developer.
I agree, that was a bungle... they tried to bring the new functionality to phones that were just a little to underpowered to handle it well. That said, it was recognized very early on that there was a slowdown on the older phones with that update. Also, I thought you could revert back to the old OS if that were the case, no?
they have a program called RECBOOT that you could download to kick it out of brick/DFU mode if you search aroudn on google then they have some sites that give you tips on how to use it. Then again you can always go on youtube and they have videos on how to do it.
lol, right! "Geniuses".... yeah right. Half of those guys wouldn't even know how to add a MAC OSX machine to an active directory domain, or how to map a network drive.
Never been in the Apple store, but I wouldn't doubt that. It still seems being able to physically visit is a much better option then calling and speaking to someone halfway across the world.
I got a reservation at the Apple store tomorrow at 11:20 am. I'll let you know how it turns out (obviously).
