except for the fact that until they send a flight out to pinpoint the exact center, all models are not to be trusted.

    Xenon, well said.

I'm sure the families and friends of those who died from the effects of that storm dont feel it was "overhyped"

    a-freaking-men.

think Ike was a b****? imagine what Rita would have done making a direct hit on Houston....and yet, most in Houston think of Rita as nothing but media hype. that storm was terrible for those east of houston.

For some of us, it's the exact opposite. We're old enough to remember a more responsible media.

And no matter how bad a storm threat is, fear mongering and political grandstanding are still unacceptable.

No, you just remember a media without widespread internet, Twitter, cable news and a public with instantly ready recording devices in every pocket.

For those people who were effected, it wasn't fear mongering and if they weren't adequately prepared its real bad right now. But most national news sources arent going to tailor make their content for specific areas.

The local news reported on it, but it wasn't a dominating story here....which makes sense, of course.

The Networks sensationalize Hurricanes, using fear to generate ratings. It's much worse now, and it's inexcusable. It's called Disaster p*rn, and it's evil.

I'm saying its 'worse' because the saturation of information services is so prevalent. You can see old school newspaper headlines and see that sensationalizing disasters is hardly new. Some orgs are more subdued than others, but they all are trying to draw eyes one way or the other.

And let's be honest; there's ultimately one reason any of that stuff works....

BAMM or GFDL would mean rain here...otherwise, we're screwed. i'm not sure who i file a complaint with, but i'm going to be PISSED if we don't get rain this weekend - and yes, i realize how ridiculous that is.

Not yet...I think they are scheduled to fly this afternoon.
