The only people that over exaggerated this storm were the east coast media. Media like CNN, TWC, Fox, MSNBC... those guys do this annually. They have no reason to overhype any of this. I never saw anything that a meteorologist said about the New England area that hasn't panned out already. Flooding was going to be the big issue there and it's started. Like I said, the only the people that over exaggerated this mess were local medias in the cities where affected because they don't know jack **** when it comes to hurricanes.

what's wrong with preventing your vehicle from being scratched by flying debris?

if I recall, last major hurricane in the NYC area was hurricane Floyd, that's 12 years ago... they're not used to this type of natural disaster, and with combination of the recent earthquake tremors... I don't blame them for overreacting

Would be crazy if the hurricane hit at the same time as the earthquake happened.

balla, did you witness all of the trash cans that were overturned? I saw them rolling around and I was like "Holy crap! 30mph winds!" Some of the reporters even had water up to their ankles!!! Just CRAZY!!!

Watched the storm come through in L.I. yesterday morning and we took the brunt of it. Many trees knocked down and the streets covered with trees and what not. The coastal areas were flooded due to the east wind (the Great South Bay does not have a western exit) and it being high tide.

But overall, not much damage beyond power being out to 2 million people. NYC had hardly any flooding - really was overblown. NYC isn't like other areas since many parts of the city would be vulnerable to a storm surge but even this cat one hitting at a new moon high tide wasn't all that bad.

The Bears are looking at the Gulf too...

AccuWeather.com: Will Texas be the Next Target for a Hurricane?

"An upcoming area of disturbed weather in the western Gulf of Mexico bears watching from Louisiana to Texas and northeastern Mexico.

The tropics may yet lend a hand in the Texas drought situation as it appears a system rolling through the western Caribbean now may later gel in the western Gulf of Mexico.

That system is rather disorganized at this time, but there is room for development late in the week.

The seriousness of the drought and heat in Texas goes without saying, and most of Texas would be willing to take a hit from a tropical storm or minimal hurricane to bring a change.

We are not going to say either is definitely coming to Texas at this point, but there will be a disturbance milling around in the western Gulf of Mexico during the second half of this week.

If that system is able to avoid land long enough, shifting weather patterns up north and to the west could allow it to organize, strengthen and eventually drift toward Texas real estate.

Interests in the Gulf of Mexico and the central and western Gulf coast should continue to monitor the situation.

According to Long Range Expert Paul Pastelok, "At the very least it does appear that there will be some rain getting into eastern Texas starting later this week, especially south and east of Dallas."

There are other features across the tropical Atlantic that are being monitored for further development as well."

Hurricanes have become Disaster Theater, where politicians and the media engage in rampant fear mongering, when sniveling little pols start snapping their heels together, and when our government stops pretending we are constitutionally protected citizens and starts bossing us around like children.

The problem is that many of you are children when it comes to hurricanes. A lot of these posts are proof of that. Many of you think that because you specifically made it out ok that it MUST have been overhyped while ignoring the many that died or the thousands stranded right now in NC, upstate NY and VT. Do you think it was hype for them? Vermont experienced their worst flooding EVER. That's not hype. That's real.
