really? he paid for the transportation, sleeping arrangements of the secret service, his staff, their food, etc.? linky pleasy. oh and 8/6/01. bush was vacationing that day.
It's not like presidents ever really take a vacation, even W., though he probably came as close as anyone since WWII. You still get the intelligence briefing every day and have to tend to a host of other stuff. What a vacation does get you is out of the bubble of the White House and a bit of relief from doing the ceremonial parts of the job, like having your photo taken with the national officers of the Future Farmers of America or the guy who walked across the Dakotas to raise money for some cause. You get to spend most of that time normally devoted to the ceremonial part of the job on whatever you want... for Clinton, it was reading policy tomes and playing golf. For W, he was always trying to invoke the Reagan imagery, so he had to frequently do the ceremonial cutting of brush. For Obama, it's goofing around with his kids. You can bet they also used the time to call up donors and chat with other heavy hitters. I don't begrudge any president their "vacation" time, but I did think W took it to extreme with how he didn't handle Katrina.

I'm sure this is not some selective reporting of numbers without context in a feeble (yet probably effective) way to smear Obama by misconstruing his stewardship of taxpayer money.
Hmm..I bet if you look at Michelle Obama's vacations with that of all the First Lady's Vacations, they're probably not that far from each other costwise (adjusted for inflations of course). - Remember this is the Enquirer and they are great at exagerating and inflating. I also remember that Michael Moore held Bush to and extreme definition of vacation (including any and all the time he spent on air force one, visits to diplomats etc in foreign countries as vacation, etc) and it turned out Bush's vacation time was just about average with other Presidents.
michelle obama is about as low key as laura bush. she has her initiative on making our children healthier. i know the diehard wingers thinks that's some evil socialist plot but other than that i don't get how you can't stand her.

no clue... its possible.. just seemed to me that it would be a lot cheaper to take a retreat/vacation in your own home then it would to fly to some exotic location and take a huge security detail with you. Also why are we arguing about something so stupid as who's vacation was more expensive?
Don't the security details get paid even when the President and his family are in the White House? Isn't the upkeep/upgrade of Air Force 1 costly even if the President insist on flying commercial or refuses to fly altogether? This is Republican agitation literature trying to get the people of Wal Mart angry at the President for being different than they are.
