TAMU just brought SEC football into the state of Texas. Not half-assed Big 12 football... SEC FOOTBALL. Teams like ISU, Baylor, Kansas, Tech and KSU will be playing in Austin. Teams like Florida, Alabama, LSU and Tennessee will be playing College Station. I couldn't be more excited as a fan of the state of Texas! TAMU has been a powerhouse before, no reason to think it cant return to that level. Either way -- can't live life in fear.
The SEC already has a talent hall from the state of Texas. No one is arguing it is not beneficial for the SEC, frankly I don't give two ****s for them, what I am saying is it is NOT beneficial for A&M, them I care for.... DD
So they should go to a worse conference, get paid less money, less television exposure and get stuck in conference that most experts believe has a short lifespan...because? How would they be "better off?" I think too many people evaluate things only from "where they will win the most games." Universities are not making decisions based on what conference will let their football team win the most games in a given season.
They'd be part of something progressive. Part of the movement that would ultimately lead to super conferences and change the landscape of college football for the better.
those games against the teams you mentioned will lead to bowl games against east carolina in december.
It's more about expanding the reach of the Big10 Network than anything else. If NY schools are in the conference, NY providers are pretty much forced to carry it - sort of like Austin cable providers are going to be forced to carry the Longhorn Network. We saw what happened when Rutgers made the Alamo Bowl a few years back which was only televised on the NFL Network, not available in the NY area on a lot of providers.
It's not about winning, remember. Come 2012 we shouldn't expect to hear any Aggies moan about their on the field performance. We should expect to hear them all rejoicing about the losses to exciting SEC teams. Kinda the same way most Texans fans on this board don't mind missing the playoffs because our division is so tough.
Exactly. People are looking at this from a fan's "I want to win" perspective - but that's not driving the decision making at all. These are long-term 20+ year decisions. But even within that, they aren't looking at it from a competitor's viewpoint at all. They are acting like everyone should place an artificial ceiling on their program and say "we're just not good enough, so let's take the easy route". No actual competitor would take that attitude.
Maybe so, but they've clearly communicated that it's their intent. If they don't leave at this point, their fan base is going to be livid, and they will be a laughing stock to the rest of the Big12.
The Texans would be pretty stupid to make a decision about what division to go to for the next 20 years because the Colts have Peyton Manning right now. It would be the essence of fan-driven short-term stupid decision making. Conferences, like NFL divisions, go through cycles.
When did the SEC have a cycle where the conference, as a whole, was not one of the most competitive conferences in the nation? This is an honest question as I don't know the answer. A&M is basically saying "I want to make things tougher on the field, in exchange for....". I'm not saying the potential tradeoffs, which don't pertain to on the field, aren't worth it. But that is what will happen. So when the on the field success isn't there, we shouldn't hear any moaning about it.
This of course cuts both ways. Texas has made it a point to put teams like USC and Notre Dame on future schedules, just like they had Ohio State a few years ago. Meanwhile, the fighting aggies will be squaring off against a lot more ULALA's and UTSA's "CAUSE THE SEC IS SO HARD IT'S LIKE A BCS GAME EVERY WEEK!" And please, lametastic "SEC-SEC-SEC!" style hollering already? That's awful no matter what school you root for. Please stop embarrassing yourself.
oh my crap...this just made me realize a nightmare situation. already annoying aggie fan now becomes corp/secguy hybrid.
If this is what A&M wants, then more power to them and best of luck. Just get used to those backwoods, mouthbreather LSU fans running around shouting "Tigah Bait!" in your face.
