It still amazes me how many people keep posting with the notion that stuff like this matters. People have such a shallow, naive concept of how this stuff works... amazes me. It's just as goofy and misguided as the Notre Dame-to-Big12 theories.
Its one of the primary reasons I've been so angry / borderline insane in this thread. By these standards, TAMU (which is ranked above UT) should be the one with the network and not UT. Insanity.
The Big 10 has been having major issues competing nationally over the last decade, mostly because their teams are laden with un-athletic white dudes. So they've been getting lit up on the big stage. Also their 3-yards and a cloud of dust, grind it out style of football is outdated in today's era of multiple formations/looks. The mass migration out of the rust belt and into the West/Southwest has also hurt their talent pool. Michigan hasn't been relevant since '04 when they had Chad Henne/Braylon Edwards/Mike Hart/Steve Breaston. Penn State hasn't done anything lately. Iowa is largely mediocre, and Ohio State is headed for probation.
For as much crap as has been flung at you, you've kept an admirable amount of cool throughout this whole thing. Haters gonna hate, man. When it's all said and done, everybody will be a lot happier this went down.
what do you think those theories are? i'm not saying they have anything to do with on the field stuff...nor, am i saying that's going to happen.
i like this  if you believe we're all heading for super conferences...and if you believe ND will be unwilling to part with its NBC contract and its rights to an independent network...then it's easy to see why the Big XII would be ND's only landing spot. now if they're willing to give those things up, i don't think they'd come to the Big XII ever. but the idea that they're going to be able to remain independent in the new landscape coming is foolish, i think. same reason why UT won't.
ND has been irrelevant... they also have a lucrative network contract in place. In fact, they basically just told the Big 12 to go **** themselves. I'll take PSU, Iowa and Michigan. You can have KSU, ISU and Tech. TAMU can go winless this year and STILL sellout 2012. PSU can go winless and that stadium will still be whited out on gameday. The moment Boise State has an off year they'll be off the radar.
On a different note, how do you see the 10th (and possibly 11th-12th) Big 12 member situation playing out?
this. i won't argue with anyone that sec isn't the premiere conference in the nation, but if we want to talk long term, there's no gurarantee that the big 10 will ever reclaim the tradition it had. yeah, penn state and michigan are still considered big programs since most of us can still remember when they were relevant, but it should be pointed out that the next non-OSU team from the big 10 to play in the BCS championship game will be the first.
What are the Ags running on? One good season in last 12 years???? A 9 win season in 2010 against a "less competitive" (as A&M claims it's too easy) big 12? Their first top 25 finish in 2010 since 1999? Their last bowl victory against TCU in the gallery furniture.com bowl in 2001? A&M had a good year in 2010, Texas had a terrible one. No debate there.
you should probably post this to someone in the texans forum as well. if you think ziggy has caught a lot of crap in this thread, i can't imagine how much you sympathize with ric.
they make it sound like they're not one of the top 15 football programs revenue wise in college football. how in reveille's name did they ever do that when playing in the worst conference in the history of man with the biggest meanest school ever?!?!
Ric jumps into the line of fire, often times without any provocation, and by his own admission pumps out rhetoric to "counter-balance" negativity. So, I don't really feel sorry for him. Ziggy, on the other hand, has been pretty evenly keeled, realistic and grounded in his thinking, and as far as I've seen hasn't fired the first shot at many people.
LOL. Jesus... SMU will probably beat TAMU this weekend, it'll be the straw that puts me in a mental institution.
i sure hope so! go mustangs! i'm really loving this hatred of all things aggy that's coming back. reminds me of my youth. i've gotten too soft rooting for texas kids or for the conference. this is just what i needed.
