What a strange pitching performance tonight for Wandy.

After getting hammered by 3 dbl's and a HR, he then strikes out the next 3 guys. He now has 9 k's after 4.

Wandy is going to make some team very happy this offseason. 6 IP 12 Ks...ALL SWINGING. Stros should also be happy with a nice return they will get for him.

Watching Schafer is like watching a young clone of Steve Finley. Guys looks, hits and runs like Fins and hopefully is about to turn into Steve and not even talking about HR hitting Finley but rather young table setting Fins.

    Funny inning.

As far as players resembling each other, that means next to nothing. You can find 100 other players who looked like Finley who didn't amount to squat. It really doesn't mean much even if we all do it. Bogusevic looks like Teixeira in some ways, not just in appearance. Paredes resembles Cano in some ways. The former certainly won't be the next Teixeira though.

Yes, Schafer is a good athlete with some tools and still has some potential to grow. That's all I'd say at the moment.

Steady Aim is obviously not one of Juan Abreu's 3 perks...

LOL...Brooks, not saying he will become Fins but just he resembles Steve A LOT in many ways. I hope he does, their career paths are actually quite similar but even so...just an observation.

It's a shame the Pirates couldn't at least make it interesting for their fans down the stretch. It was obvious that their pitching staff was way overachieving though, starting with them being last in the league in K-rate. Some pitchers can be effective with low K-rates but when you're whole staff is collectively dead last, you're due for a correction, and that correction came hard and fast.

I understand what you're saying but you've mentioned it a few times now and it simply doesn't mean much. I scanned their numbers and Finley was better in the minors somewhat significantly w/out knowing park factors and what not. There just isn't much baseball logic to that though process but we all do it with young players.

Gotcha...just making small talk during a dreadful season and it's something even JD brought up during the telecast so it crossed my mind and their styles resemble each other. Plus, Steve was one my favorite players.

It's always fun to see how much Wandy has progressed from several years ago. A rough inning like he had earlier in this game would've been insurmountable more often than not back then. In addition to whatever technical improvements he's made, he's clearly gotten tougher mentally. He used to get pale and seem like he was pissing his pants when things went poorly. Now, he stays relatively cool and finds ways to stay focused and regroup. Nice story. Hopefully he'll be helping a playoff-caliber team by sometime next season and we'll have a couple more nice prospects in our pipeline.

I know, I know... you know me though. We just kind of have different outlooks on a lot of things. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle. :)

Second lowest attendance in MMP history last night.

Always a good feeling to get a win, even though I care a lot more about individual performance right now. Always checking to see how the young guys are progressing, and to see if the veterans can improve their value.

19,250 according to BBTN. They commented on it, and said it looked like a weekend homestand at Tropicana, and also that 19,000 as your second worst attendance is actually impressive.
