To be honest, I'm fairly certain that in recent memory A&M has never had more black students than UT. According to this website, UT has a 4% black population while A&M has 2.6%.

It will be great theatre to see who the 10th Big 12 member is, and for that matter, who the inevitable 11th and 12th members will be.

Justice writes what he thinks will get clicks. Right now, he knows all Aggies are looking for anything anti-Texas to plaster all over the internet, so he bashes Texas.

In two months you can expect an article from Justice on how great the LHN is. He's a total hack. He knows how to get clicks and readers, but he's a joke.

And exactly when was that? Was it post Hopwood when UT saw their AA numbers fall (just to give an example). Additionally, the majority of black students in college are FEMALES, not males. Females don't play D1 football, do they? Well, aside from being a kicker.

Instead of continuing to note that you think A&M had more black students there than UT in your day (since you have yet to provide any support for that), so you think it's the same way now (since someone clearly showed that it isn't), how about you answer my questions so we can see just how much you know about recruiting black kids, specifically males, to College Station. The questions are really quite simple.

FL, UT (Knoxville), UGA, Miss are generally considered party schools. It's not only about being in the boonies. It's about being a conservative school in the boonies.

Shouldn't you provide the data, since you made the point?

And yet, it appears that A&M has had no problems recruiting black kids right now, based on their recruiting rankings. Perhaps, at some point, you should consider that "black kids" are not a homogeneous bunch and that, like white kids, there are different people who like different things. Plenty apparently currently are happy to go A&M, it seems.

Nope. You do it. Sucker. TAMU recruits "black males" as is. So you do it. I've actually provided that data years ago in a different thread. You're captain "black males" -- so you go prove something.

    Sucker.

Agreed 100% on Justice. Didn't like the way he portrayed UT. But he outlines a lot of important stuff in an easy-to-interpret way.

A&M loses out on tons of black kids, athletic and academic, because of the College Station atmosphere. I recruit for 2 schools and know the A&M recruiters, so I know this firsthand. I also attended what has been one of the biggest feeder HS's for black males to A&M. This is something that the school is aware of and tries to combat. There are less black males on their campus than any other demographic.

Around 473 kids is not what I would consider "plenty" (rough estimate, but if A&M has around 45K kids and 3% are black and 35% of that 3% are males...). But either way, I never stated all black kids are alike or that no black students choose to go to A&M (please don't put words in my mouth). I stated that A&Ms conservative nature and location makes it harder to recruit black kids there (mainly males), as opposed to some of these other campus environments in the SEC. That is a factual statement and quite relevant to a discussion about recruiting. It does not mean it is impossible to get a kid to come to College Station. It does mean it's harder to get a kid to come to College Station.

So if you provided it in a seperate thread then it should be quite easy for you to post the data here. Typically, one provides support for the points that they make.

If pointing out factual statements that the school seems to agree with (the A&M atmosphere makes it harder to recruit black guys there) then I guess I'll be captain black males all day and tomorrow. But I talk to black kids and their parents about their college concerns all the time (A&M included). How often do you, even for ones looking at A&M? I've asked you this question at least 3 times now.

Of course they lose out on kids because of the atmosphere - because, again, different people like different things, and many aren't going to like it. And yet, they still manage to recruit really, really well. The beauty of college football is that you only need about 20-25 kids a year. So overall numbers are pretty much irrelevant since you're just cherry picking, and you're specifically targetting the kids that don't hate the atmosphere.

So far, we've determined that A&M has no effective problems recruiting black kids, and that at least one (white?) kid that has an apparent interest in picking A&M if they join the SEC, negating the idea that there's no one in that category. So is the argument now down to that white kids might switch to A&M for the SEC but not black kids?

My argument is the same. To conclude that A&M will get a big boost in recruiting from going to the SEC means that A&M will now get more:

    - Kids who will only play in the SEC
    - Kids who wanted the SEC but refused to leave Texas

I don't think there are that many kids in the 2nd category (just my opinion). As far as the first category, that means A&M needs to convince kids to pick College Station over other SEC schools (since these kids are already leaving to go to SEC schools), and I think the College Station atmosphere will cause A&M to still lose out on most of those kids. Hence folks saying "it's still College Station". The options to play ball in Texas, for the majority Texas kids that A&M is currently getting, are not in places that top College Station's environment (outside of Austin). Can we conclude that the kids A&M is currently getting aren't the kids in the 1st category? Stuff changes when you introduce the SEC schools into the equation, since the kids that we are referring to are the ones that want the SEC. I'm picking College Station over Lubbock is not the same as I'm picking College Station over Baton Rouge or Gainsville. I don't see the move as a major plus to recruiting like some others have concluded and constantly mentioning how strong A&M's class currently is has no bearing in this convo.....if you are talking about them suddenly starting to land these kids who just have to have the SEC. The kids that they currently have obviously aren't the ones who just have to have the SEC. It's a different competition.
