Nice call on the PhotoShop. If you look at the dividers in the road, no way is the water deep enough for a shark of that size.
Wow. That is one scary looking storm. North Carolina is really in for it, especially if it keeps organizing, as it's doing right now.
Lots of similarities to Ike. Huge storm with maximum winds on the low side of what you would expect considering the central pressure.
Definitely. It will cause significant damage to NYC if it stays on the path even though when it weakens to a cat 1 because of storm surge. Remember, we had a similar situation with ship channel and the storm surge...we dodged the bullet so let's hope that NYC will dodge the bullet this time.

Arrived in NYC today. Funny to see the various mayors and other jerkwad politicians pull the same old "There is no danger. Get out NOW!" routine that we've grown so accustomed to down southlike. I'm high and dry in Harlem with no power lines to fall down and no trees to fall on 'em, so I'm not exactly ****ting my pants over this "massive" Category 1.
I remember hurricane Floyd years back... somewhat the same as Irene... I was living in Queens, NYC at the time, and just remembered watching TRL with all the lunatic teenagers standing in Times Square getting punished by the rain
They are more worried about storm surge flooding Manhattan. I don't think that would happen though. Eeek, hope not!
Closing the subway tomorrow, mandatory evacuations of low lying areas, yep! I'm out, Heading to the northern Catskills! Irene won't find me at 3000ft elevation.
