I completely agree with that. But in this case the risk tables far outweigh what he is being paid or what he has received from the Titans up until this point. He is grossly underpaid. He's worth at least $20M and is supposed to play for what, $900K? Come on now.... There is nothing wrong with holding out. You get paid to play football. If you feel your deal is unfair and it's too risky for you to play for that amount then don't play. The team isn't paying you while you are out.
Holding out is an accepted reality in football. There's no uproar when it happens, unless it's a silly situation like Cortland Finnegan. I suppose there's an unspoken understanding that players have the "right" to hold out (and be fined accordingly) for a new deal if their pay is way out of whack with their stature. Johnson being paid less than a million when he's absolutely one of the top 3 backs in the league and gave them 2500 all purpose yards for ~$600K is the definition of out of whack. No one was angry when AJ did it here - he was right. But you are correct - not just anyone can do it when they have a big year. Foster's not holding out. 90% of the league isn't. It doesn't work half the time anyway. Extremely few carry it over into week 1, aside from the rare pisser like Vincent Jackson. The Titans absolutely, 100%, should man up and give him a new deal. They need to at least offer him Franchise Tag like money. Why burn your bridges with the face of your franchise? Why alienate your fans in the process?

Lulz. When the franchise has already suffered through Steve Slaton and Domanick Davis (Williams) to declare a RB the best in football after one season. I think Johnson would be even better if he were a Texan, where the offense around him is so much better & the coach is more offensively inclined.
But the Titans have already offered to make him the highest paid RB, which is in response to the gentleman's agreement they made to take of him in exchange for not holding out last year. He's now holding out above and beyond that part.
That offer never came per his agent. Supposedely he had to show up to camp and get it. But this is the same org that told Finnegan he would get a new deal when he got to camp, just to screw him. This is also the same org that told CJ last year he would get taken care of this year and they are dragging their feet somewhat. It's not necessary for someone to be in camp to get a deal done.
On the flipside, it's also not necessary to avoid camp to hold out. He could easily just show up to camp but not participate in drills or whatnot and force their hand.
I really think he might end up getting traded. The Titans are going nowhere anytime soon and a RBs shelf life is too short to spend that much money on him right now. It is also not necessary to have a dominant RB to win super bowls anymore. It's all about passing attack and having a solid back or two and good o-line to get the tough yards. No team since the Rams, Broncos, and Cowboys of the '90s has relied much on one dominant back to win a Super Bowl. The money is better spent elsewhere if you have a lot of needs, IMO.
Agreed. But how much of a duche do you look to your teammates to be there at camp, not participating? The Titans aren't exactly doing well in the "trust us, we got you" department.
