Found this in my driveway, I'm worried that it fell off of my wife's car. 2007 VW Jetta (wolfsberg ed). Some kind of clamp, but no clue on what it goes to. It was at the end of the driveway, so it could be from anything, but the silver color matches her car. Note that the screw portion was open more when I found it.

Reps as usual for anyone who posts. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't look automotive to me. It's a set crew clamp of some sort but never seen anything like that on any car I've worked on.

It appears to be a Catalytic Conversion Gasket Capacitor. These are especially critical on VW's.

Thanks, repped. It is odd. I've never seen anything like it either.

Also, my area is pretty heavy in metal work, so any one of the guys who live around me could have had this in the bed of their truck. But the silver color is very close to the parts on her car. It's not here right now so I can't make a close inspection.

Woah, that is a clamp for the muffler bearings, without that thing the car will overheat and cause the engine to sieze.

I appreciate the feedback, but when I plug that into Google images, it doesn't match up at all. Is it a part to a Catalytic Conversion Gasket Capacitor?

LOL! You guys are horrible! Xero there is no such part. It probably fell off a truck like you said and just ended up in your driveway.

If I know VW's the sensors should be going off like alarms soon. they are super sensitive about anything.

So they should rename VWs - Reeko_Htowners?

So one time i got some Great Stuff all over my hands and looked online for help. Like the noob I am, I took the advice that Purple Primer would get it off. All it did was make my hands look like i had purple leprosy.

While the jokes are funny, my wife will be driving home from work in this in rush hour on the freeway tonight. So I would appreciate some help. :)

No worries about the VW's alarms, he can just wait for the electrics to go out.

Computer died, already replaced under warranty earlier this year, so I'm hopeful that I went through the Jetta electronics failing phase.

I went by two auto parts stores, they had never seen a part like that. Granted, I'm in a yokel town so VWs aren't the norm. But I feel slightly confident about it.

Reps all around, even the jokes. Remember, payback is a b****.

Looks like some kind of cable clamp.

Probably not a big deal even if it came out of your car. Usually those sorts of things just try to reduce the amount of movement that cables and/or wires have inside. Generally takes quite a bit of movement for anything to go wrong. (like a wire getting caught in your fan or something)
