Not thrilled with Obama, but if Perry or that nut from Minn wins Republican nomination, I guess I will have to vote for Obama and ask everyone I know to vote for Obama. Cannot believe Republican have became the party of the nuts. Even GW would look great against these nuts.

I voted for Bush. Democrats got a hold of our nut-jobs on our side, time for republicans to follow the lead.

I saw Kinky and the Texas Jewboys play clubs back in the day, I've met the man more than once, I know someone very well who's a friend of his going back to high school, and I've always admired him as both an artist and a writer, but this is too much. I'm done with the Kinkster. If he is so ignorant, so uninformed, so dimwitted, so uncaring of the fate of the State of Texas, much less the United States of America, that he can endore Rick Perry with a straight face, then he can go **** himself.

**** you, Kinky Friedman. You just betrayed your state, your country, and your friends.

Kinky has always been a simple-minded bozo clown. His act is cute in the way my grandfather was cute when he found a quarter behind my ear. You turn five and figure out the trick and then you just sort of start feeling sorry for him. Why anyone would listen to him on matters of state is totally beyond me.

Not directing this to you, but people starting to write Romney off are making a big mistake. The guy is not going away without a vicious fight. He didn't run hard 4 years ago and build another campaign machine this time just to be blown away by a few weeks of Rick Perry's hot air. Without Perry in the race, Romney was probably going to run a relatively clean campaign because none of the other candidates was viable. If Perry ends up being durable, it's going to get nasty. Romney knows this is his last shot and all the stops will come out. Plus there are a lot of Republicans that do not want Perry to lead the ticket for reasons you indicate.

If Perry is still leading Romney by 12 in the national polls when the Iowa caucuses start, I will be surprised.

I have always felt this way about him and never understood why people gave him more than 2 minutes of serious thought regarding politics.

Yet they do, enough to hand Perry the election two cycles ago.

more and more i think they staged that whole run of his to help keep perry in office. it worked - b/t him and carol keaton-mcclellan-strayhorn-rylander they got about 40% of the vote.

The sad part about 2006 was Chris Bell ran his entire campaign on less than 3 million dollars and still came fairly close to Perry (even with Strayhorn and Kinky drawing votes)

Meanwhile, Bill White raised 25ish million. Give Bell even half of that and things might've gone a lot better.

Glad to see people have pretty much the same views of Perry as I do.

I moved here from Louisiana(work related). Every since I became a Texas citizen and started looking into Perry. I was shocked that majority of Texans support him.

It is refreshing to know I am not having a unrealistic view of Perry.

It's enough to make a grown man weep. Good post, if depressing.

Reminds me of what Ross Perot did to George H.W. Bush in 1992.

IIRC, this was a common and understandable but later debunked myth. As I recall, election day polls showed Perot's vote would have been split basically evenly between Clinton and Bush were he not on the ballot.

i dont think perot was in it to swing the election in clintons favor though, unlike kinkster who i think was in it specifically to help perry.

perots campaign was genuine - kinkys was a fraud.

I heard the same thing and can't turn back the clock, but Perot entered the race and spent most of his time chopping Bush, who was in the lead. He left the race when (my translation of his words) things were more like he wanted (because Clinton had surged ahead).

He jumped back in at the last minute when Bush was closing in on Clinton and set things on fire by saying "Republican dirty tricksters" wanted to sabotage his daughter's wedding. This threw the Bush campaign completely off stride and blunted his momentum.

If Looney Tune Perot hadn't painted a bullseye on Bush, there never would have been a President Clinton, IMO. To this day, I believe the Ross Perot phenomenon is the biggest political fraud in my lifetime and I totally despise the guy. It took me about 10 mins to figure out he had no chance of winning and his primary goal was to be a spoiler.

Sure, during the brief honeymoon period when he lead the polls, I believe Perot actually thought he could win. But when he came to whatever senses he had, it was all about taking down Bush.
