Netscape 7.0

IE is better.

 

netscape sucks. crashes way too much. i have 7.0, but i've never used it. IE is much nicer

Yeah, I'm using it right now and I am finally starting to like it. So far, you're right because I haven't had any crashes with Netscape either, no matter how many p*rn sites I visit.

 

Opera is cleaner.

i was talking about previous versions of netscape. they've dismayed me so much that I have yet to test 7.0 on my system. I merely downloaded and installed it if I ever felt like ****ing my machine up one day.

 

Azadre, if you know about Mozilla, why use Netscape at all? They always bundle all their advertising junk, and you end with a browser that's out of date (based on Moz 1.0) rather than the current Mozilla 1.1.

Tabbed browsing rocks, I use Chimera as my main browser at the minute, and it's been really stable.

 

Opera is good, but I've had problems with it for Java. It also doesn't really do that well with cache. For instance, when I used it, I would have to re-enter my name and password to CC.net 90% of the time I'd go to the page. Really bad with cookies.

 

If you want to try a really GOOD alternative try Avant.I've been using it for about a month and love it.

I love being able to have 6 or 7 pages open without robbing my system of resources.

I tried NS 7 on my work laptop but it seems there is some memory issue going on that I can't be bothered to look at or fix. After installing it and it tries to start the quick launch thingy, it comes back with some memory reference error stating that address XXXXXXX could not be "read" from. I use IE and Opera, mainly IE cause that's the browser of choice for work (our helpdesk system is online and is configured to use IE). Occassionally when surfin... err.. researching on the net IE stuffs up the communication with my proxy so I just Opera and that works fine.

Might have to go and try this Avant thingy....

 

I actually like the avantbrowser skin for IE (that's all it is, with a bit of functionality added) since it has the tabbed browsing.

However, I dislike that it won't allow you to install any other toolbars than their spyware toolbar.

 

I've got to say as a web developer there is only IE - NN inhales. This is one area I wish MS would rule so we don't have to have dual browser support. IE javascript works for 5 and up - NN javascript is iffy at best.

 

If you code to W3C standards, your pages will render correctly in the latest versions of IE and Mozilla. I've found that the pages that don't render properly in Moz are badly coded (ie use non-standard markup), but IE handles the pages non-compliance in a more "friendly" way.

Netscape Navigator 4.x is hell though, I can agree with you there. And 6.0 was buggy too, but from 7 onwards, I can have no complaints. The W3C Level 1 DOM works in both major browsers now (in my experience).

 

Yes- I've never had a problem getting it to work on IE, Mozilla and Opera but getting it to work on NN is very frustrating with all the "this doesn't work as featured" features. And I hate spending half my time getting something to "work" for 3% of the stubborn people out there {said in a very bitter tone}. I'll almost always throw down a "best viewed" IE link on my home page. It won't crash with NN, but you will be missing some nice features. I haven't tried NN7 yet, but I'm afraid that my past with NN has forever tainted them. Besides, I hate making the most recent version of a browser the requirement. If 7 works well and they come out with a 8 or 7's been out for more than 2 years, I'll start lookin back into them.
